[ComStar]

This man is deranged

For those that don't know, ComStar is the name of the central communications company in the tabletop game Battletech. They control all the communication in the entire galaxy, are styled as and act like a religious institution, and have their own private army empowered to show up and coup anyone who doesn't pay up or attempts to create a separate communications network

Whoever told Musk about this fucking lore needs to be sent to the pit

ComStar is literally the satire faction about tech nerds and how their own self-worship has religious undertones. The BT writers were specifically making fun of people like Elon.

“At last, I have created the ComStat from the culturally acclaimed novel Don’t Create The ComStat

we love the Torment Nexus, don’t we folks

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

You think Elon would ever grasp that?

AOC: I don't know how those acts can be defended.

Also AOC: defends those acts

That’s nice, but that makes her ambivalent at best.

Maybe she’ll have enough spine to vote against Israel funding though since she knows full well it will pass anyways

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

Oh good at least she's doin a vote

If Elon starts Battletech posting, I will literally become the joker. matt-jokerfied

Elon has such a great track record...

Oops: Elon Musk Donated the Wrong Kind of Ventilator

2020/04/02

He promised life-saving ventilators. He delivered sleep apnea machines.

Over the last few days, Tesla CEO and bona fide public health disaster Elon Musk has scored a lot of praise and flattering press coverage for his promise to deliver medical ventilators to hospitals facing an overwhelming number of coronavirus cases...

News of the future:

Oops: Elon Musk Donated The Wrong Kind of Connectivity

2023/08/31

He promised life-saving Internet. He delivered logical connectives.

Over the last few days, Tesla CEO and bona fide humanitarian disaster Elon Musk has scored a lot of praise and flattering press coverage for his promise to deliver connectivity to humanitarian aid organizations in Gaza amidst a growing humanitarian crisis.

Well, he delivered, sort of. … Reached for comment, Elon tweeted: “Not or and if!”

Tesla CEO and bona fide humanitarian disaster Elon Musk

Haha.

Reached for comment, Elon tweeted: “Not or and if!”

No poop emoji?

No poop emoji?

Presumably he still sent that first

not poop

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Seems pretty related to poop to me.

name a corpo tech fascist who isn't intertwined with the military industrial complex, you can't

[–] macerated_baby_presidents@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think he should personally deliver them to Gaza, "let that sink in" style. Imagine the struggle session over whether we should critically support the IDF for accidentally blowing up billionaires

[–] emizeko@hexbear.net 24 points 2 years ago (1 children)

wow how could AOC be so "bigoted and callous" as to suggest Israel did something wrong?

This actually shows that she is a very astute politician.

First few days when Israel was caught offguard and Hamas’s attack seemed actually threatening to the settlers, the socdem instinct to protect imperialism was triggered, condemning pro-Palestinian sentiment as anti-semitism.

Few days later when Israel has finally gotten its shit together and Hamas’s initial momentum had faded, and the fate of the Gaza Palestinians is one that awaits to be slaughtered, the socdem is once again safe to call Israel out for their inhumane treatment against the Palestinians.

Pay attention to how their rhetoric changes: when the oppressed rises up and imperialists are under threat, they will denigrate you for supporting “terrorism”, and when the imperialists are finally putting down the oppressed, they will tell you how this is wrong and how they have always condemned such inhumane practices.

The most pathetic AOC reply guy

[–] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

The US has, ofc, historically not denounced this, but has done similar things to Somalia and Iraq.

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago

lmao on a contract or just as long as you feel like? and does "internationally recognized" mean "approved by the state dept"?

[–] Tachanka@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

the united states has historically denounced this practice

which is a purely symbolic statement that does not line up with their actual behavior!!!! lenin-rage

How tf could he get those dishes into Gaza given the blockade?

Aid orgs are probably gonna get at least some access to Gaza, he could just give it to them. It could all just be bluster and he won't do shit but of all the shitty things this dude has said and done this is the least shitty thing so not sure why I'd be immediately hostile towards the idea.

[–] daisy@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

Aid orgs are probably gonna get at least some access to Gaza

Call me a cynic but I'm increasingly uncertain of that.

[–] Othello@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

i saw Palestinians calling for starlink. i have no clue how it works though.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You need a pricy dish first with a clear view of the sky.

The fact Elon can selectively, geo-percise shut off or block comms, he could most likeky track percisely where all the starlink devices are, giving the US and Isn't Real percise location tracking of journalists and aid workers aka "targets" like a Trojan horse.

[–] Othello@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

gotcha bad idea, im sure the people calling for it were just desperate.

[–] Zvyozdochka@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

A pricey dish, and a very hefty monthly fee. It's like $200/month on top of the one time installation/hardware fee. It's ridiculous.
