After some major studios clutched their pearls over AMC Theatres‘ decision

Would say that's definitely not "clutching their pearls" and is a huge misuse of that phrase, and minimizes the actual problem.

Who the hell wants 30 minutes of ads? Remember, friends don't let friends go to AMC.

They wanna run THIRTY MINUTES of ads?? That's fucking insane!! Even the twenty odd minutes already there are absurd.

I want 3-5 movie trailers and one of those "don't forget our popcorn combo deal at the concession stand!" messages

I walk in 25 minutes after the "official" start time. I couldn't care less about their commercials or trailers.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 5 points 3 days ago

Yep, I do the same. Zero reason to show up on time to chain theaters.

18 minutes is more realistic. I haven't seen trailers last more than 20 minutes ever, and I've been keeping track for ~15 years.

Minimum 25 minutes where I live.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Damn, how do they even have that many? Lol . I mean, it pisses me off seeing Odysseus trailers a year before it comes out, are they showing inappropriate trailers for the movie or something? Like a SpongeBob trailer before a horror movie or something?

It's mostly commercials. And these commercials aren't made specifically for theaters either, they're the same crap they show on TV. Commercials are a deal breaker for me, so I just don't go to theaters anymore.

Where I live, they do commercials before the start time and trailers between the start time and the movie.

That's what I'm used to. The way it used to be I made sure I didn't go into the theater before the time the movie was scheduled to start because that meant watching commercials. I tried that same tactic recently and had to watch almost 20 minutes of commercials before the trailers even started.

The enshitification in late stage capitalism is such a mess.

We're arguably at the beginning of end stage capitalism.

Thank glob. I can't wait to see what horrors await us in the upcoming phase

[–] EnderLaw@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I haven't watched trailers since ID4.

I just show up at the time it "starts" and then get concessions go to the bathroom, and by then I usually only have to see one or two.

wait y'all are putting up with nearly 30 minutes of ads?? back when i was a kid in New Zealand, it was 10 mins, and that was considered LONG..

it used to be 30 minutes of extended cut movie previews, we loved it, it let us know what was going on in the cinema world and if we didn't, we came closer to the showtime. now it's basically five movie previews and a 20 minutes of commercials
