Trans people put children at risk of realizing there are alternatives to the dogmatic conservative view of gender.

Rapists help impose patriarchal control over the population by traumatizing anyone who would resist or rebel against the culture of submission.

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

That was a very perceptive and very clarifying comment. Thank you.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago

What do you know, still not a drag queen.

[–] DigDoug@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Anybody who shits on trans people "for the children" or "for the women" should be viewed with suspicion.

They're saying that because the only reason they can fathom that people would transition is to assault women and children. The fact that that's where their mind goes says much more about them than about trans people.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago

Reminder: not a democrat, not an immigrant, not a drag queen, not a trans athlete, not a member of the LGBTQ community.

[–] 2ugly2live@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Always trans people, never the actual abusers.

GOP: Greedy Old Perverts

[–] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 90 points 3 days ago

It's all projection and it always has been. If a conservative states anything about protecting children it's because they themselves are a significant threat to children, without exception.

[–] RanryuuRain@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 days ago

Projection every single time.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 50 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Anyone who has a problem with trans people should be assumed to be a pedophile. No one without some serious skeletons in their closet is that concerned about other people's lives and bodies.

Anyone who has a problem with trans people should be assumed to be a pedophile.

That's... a bleak path towards a different flavor of hysteria. You end up with people digging shit takes out of each other's posting feeds and calling one another pedophiles.

No one without some serious skeletons in their closet is that concerned about other people’s lives and bodies.

Lots of people are pumped full of anti-Trans hysteria, anti-Trans propaganda, and ideological dogma about gender. And if one of these people finds out a friend or a family member is coming out as transgender, and doesn't know how to process that news politely, I cannot imagine how telling them "You're a child fucker" helps anyone. Least of all anyone who has actually experienced sexual assault as a child.

Turning pedophile into an insult rather than a crime just further weaponizes it for folks with the biggest megaphones. That's how you get "The Sound of Freedom" mobilizing lynch mobs of know-nothing bigots.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

Eh. I'm not the better person on this. I have no problem treating bigots the way they treat others. I'm a trans person, and I have to live with a constant parade of politicians and influencers calling me and my people pedophiles simply for existing. Sorry, turnabout is fair play. And really, the GOP really is the party of pedophilia. Their entire worldview is pro child fucking. From their encouragement of child marriage, to their complete rejection of the rights of children, to the general belief of "Father knows best." Their ideal world is one where girls are married off to older powerful men by the time they are 14 years old. It is not a coincidence that so many GOP politicians are arrested for crimes against children. It's their whole worldview.

I'm not going to start accusing random parents of being child fuckers if they simply have a few questions when their kid comes out. But if you are a politician or influencer, who makes attacking trans people a core part of your brand? Someone really needs to look at your hard drive. You're probably a pedophile.

I feel like these days, I have limited patience for gullibility. Quite often now, "They tricked me" or "They threatened me" is actually being used as an excuse for one's own bigotry.

A hundred thousand ads telling me that puppies are monstrous mind-controlled Russian robots aiming to rape women in my community could not convince me of such a "fact". And I feel that the political messaging around Trans people is just as convincing.

The strongest negative opinion I've seen from an honest, non-trolling non-partisan southern voter, was that he was upset about "Trans people taking our tax dollars". But when asked further, he said "If they want to pay for their surgeries themselves (which they do) he's totally fine with them." All the rest are hiding their own deep-seated illogical hatred. Hardly anyone is solely defined as being a victim of indoctrination.

Quite often now, “They tricked me” or “They threatened me” is actually being used as an excuse for one’s own bigotry.

It's an effective cover because it is, in effect, hiding in a crowd of clueless people.

A hundred thousand ads telling me that puppies are monstrous mind-controlled Russian robots aiming to rape women in my community could not convince me of such a “fact”.

You know, its funny. A long while ago, I was with my dog in a hotel (that was dog friendly) and she was 25 lbs, curly-haired, always smiling, loved everybody. I come out of my room and there's a woman standing in the hall with her back turned. She spins around, sees the dog, completely panicks, and runs shrieking in the other direction. I try to apologize, my dog gets excited and runs to the edge of her lease trying to chase her, and I never see her again.

Ask around, and apparently there are parts of the world where dogs aren't common pets but sort of a chronic, sometimes dangerous pest. And it isn't unusual for people in these countries to have a phobia of dogs. Even sweet little goofy ones.

It's irrational, it's frustrating, and it really hurts how people with friendly pets can get around. It's not a problem of "facts", just feelings. And for people who grow up in a household where a thing is demonized, getting them out of that mindset can often take more time and effort than it took to get them there.

The strongest negative opinion I’ve seen from an honest, non-trolling non-partisan southern voter, was that he was upset about “Trans people taking our tax dollars”.

Well fuck that guy. But, again, anti-tax hysterics are just baked into the pie in the US, too.

But when asked further, he said “If they want to pay for their surgeries themselves (which they do) he’s totally fine with them.”

That's a libertarian line that falls apart under the slightest pressure. Somehow, everything a trans person does magically ends up costing the government money. It's the same game played with abortion. Or with race and gender, for that matter. "Other"ing inevitably means segregation, with the intention of making life so miserable for the Other'd individual that they either conform or flee.

I still would not recommend calling him a pedophile over it. Where does that get you?

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

Stop giving bigots and racists an excuse. They do not need your help on this.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 73 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The GOP is the party of pedophiles.

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 51 points 3 days ago (3 children)

It's never about the children.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

Well, in a roundabout way here...

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 13 points 3 days ago

It's about the real predators wanting to control other peoples children

[–] arin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It is never about children until the politicians and their friends want to rape them.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 52 points 3 days ago

Oh look, more GOP backed child molesters.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 44 points 3 days ago (2 children)

State Sen. J. Stuart Adams loves child-rapists.

Attorneys also pointed out that, under the old law, if the accused rapist had been 17 and his victim had been 14 years old instead of 13 years old, the accused rapist would’ve been charged with a Class B misdemeanor rather than felony charges.

But he wasn’t and she wasn’t. Can I point out that if I hadn’t premeditated a murder I could qualify for manslaughter charges? No. Because the law is defined and not malleable. Unless you’re related to a senator named J. Stuart Adams, who loves child-rapists.

Trans people put girls at risk of being aware of their bodily autonomy and advocating for themselves.

[–] moshankey@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 25 points 3 days ago

And no trans people.

Grand Old Pedophiles

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago

They should name the 18 year old perpetrator in the interest of public safety. The reason given in the original article strikes me as odd:

It also is not identifying the 18-year-old, since The Tribune typically does not cover such cases.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

It's so boring they never get called out on their bs. They do t want to protect girls, they want to look up their skirts to ensure they are "intact"

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Can someone post the GOP sex offender list?

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Sure, they will. They just need to make some changes first.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Another non-dragqueen

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Its always about who these creeps want to fuck not about protecting anyone.

[–] guldiyari32@discuss.online 1 points 2 days ago

The real risk to girls clearly comes from hypocrites like him, not from trans people. Clean your own house before spewing hate.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

They only care when gay or trans people do something sexual.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This headline has an important omission. It makes it seem like this particular GOP senator said that trans people are a moral or predatory risk to girls. But in fact, he was talking about physical contact risk as a way to deny trans people their right to play sports. It would be deliciously ironic if it had been the former.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That doesn't really change anything. Even the sports issue is unscientific irrational bigotry. It comes from a complete ignorance of how trans healthcare actually works, and brain-dead assumptions that trans women have bodies anything like those of cis men.

[–] jsomae@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

For sure, it's irrational bigotry. It's still a misleading omission.

Every time.
