Here's a list of tons of leftist movies.
The fuckin simpsons has been living rent free in my head whenever I think of Planet of the Apes
"He can talk! He can talk! He can talk!"
"I CAN SIIIIIINGGGGGG"
From chimpan-A, to chimpan-zee.
"OH NO, I WAS WRONGGGG
IT WAS EARTH
ALL ALONGGGG
AND YOU'VE FINALLY MADE A MONKEY
(Yes we've finally made a monkey!)
YOU'VE FINALLY MADE A MONKEY OUT OFFFFF MEEEEEEEEEE"
I love you, Dr. Zaius!
It's pure Simpsons gold
I seen all the apes movies.
thematically, the original collection mostly took place in a distant future (excluding "Battle for the...") where ape supremacy was well established and humans were pretty much nonsense. except the psychic bomb worshippers in the forbidden zone
the reboot seems more detailed in its filling of the blanks where the apes are rising to supremacy and holding the first generations of power.
admittedly, it's been a while since I saw the O.G. ones. I was totally fascinated by them, discovering them in the 90s as a teenager and watching them whenever they were on and I was allow d to control a screen the adults found my interest quaint and frequently overruled it. they had all seen the very first one, but were totally over it and it's sequels by the time of my discovery. I was pretty much the only sci-fi head in my family, who were more dedicated to the "serious" and "grown up" genres of storytelling like romcoms, melodramas, and institutional procedurals. "Why doesn't Johnny Football Hero want to marry me in this dress?" "I need 40 CCs of cancer medicine, stat." "Objection, Your Honor: You're Under Arrest!" 🙄
I think it was probably the first media I saw that was post-apocalyptic, or at least the first I had really engaged with.
When I was in my early teen, a TV channel that used to only broadcast old movies had a Planet of the Apes special, where they had all 5 movies playing every night for some time.
I watched them all many times. I love them they are all amazing, even the bad ones.
The second and third ones are personal favorites.
People sleep on the new ones, but I like them a lot.
It's weird though right, because they seem to have very little footprint online but then they did very big box office. And, yes, they are genuinely very good
They are the best example of why people end up devoting themselves and worship revolutionary leaders in cinema tbh.
Caesar is basically Mao, Lenin etc. He liberates his people, for generations to come, and for that they owe him their lives.
Even if you disagree with Che, these movies make you understand why people are to this day so* devoted to him in Cuba.
seems to be the consensus in here. i'm gonna check them out
You won’t be disappointed. Even if your not into the story that much, the third one has some of the greatest motion capture of all time.
I remember watching and enjoying all 3, but other than the James Franco one they left little impression on my memory. Love me some Andy Serkis mocap though.
i've seen the originals, never really watched the reboot. i might give it another chance.
during the making of the originals, changing in and out of costume was a big pain, so the ape actors would eat lunch in costume. and when they did, they tended to sit together: gorillas with gorillas, chimps with chimps, orangutans with orangutans.
it's the kind of thing that gets talked about along with the stanford prison experiment, like it's a demonstration of some natural human tendency to racially segregate, rather than being a reflection of the class society the actors grew up in, and the class society presented in the film, which is itself a reflection of the class society the actors grew up in.
I think fox's deal with the studio was that they could make as many sequels as they wanted but they would half the budget each time. And they made 4 lol based
I liked the original but haven’t seen any of the sequels. I liked all of the new ones and was surprised by how good they were.
never seen any of the old ones but the reboots absolutely bang
The reboots are incredible for the ape effects alone. They look as real as I think they can look.
Dawn is my favourite. So many great moments
I haven't seen all of the reboots, but like what I've seen.
I love the original but never watched the sequels. I'll definitely give them a go, and maybe rewatch the reboots
If you like the movies, the 70s TV show is not bad either.
