A place for optimism, relentless positivity, anti-doomerism, and snuggle sessions.

We're all in this together, and a better world is possible!

This is now also a space for organizing tips for our collective survival as we confront climate change and everything else. Still no doom-posting. We're here to work together, support each other, and boldly face the future.

Rules:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the site-wide Code of Conduct

  2. No doom, no gloom, only bloom. There's plenty of room for doomerism elsewhere. This community is solely for having a positive outlook on the future and spreading good vibes.

  3. Be kind to your fellow users. This also means no arguing in the comm. Arguments and negativity are not conducive to blooming. Constructive discussion is good. No interest-policing. Support your comrades in their joy!

  4. Always share good news. We can't exactly enforce this one, but if you have good news, please share it with us! Keeping happiness and positivity to yourself is the twelfth type of liberalism.

After almost 4 months sober, I had a socially acceptable amount of alcohol at a friendly gathering last week. I have not drank since and I am not going to drink for over a month to be sure

Went to the pool for the first time in like, years... I'm so sore right now lol, it's such a good workout. I should go more often.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 19 points 4 months ago

Exercise sore is always good because it means you're going to be even stronger once your muscles recover.

I quit vaping, full disclosure I switched over to nic pouches but at least I'm no longer killing my lungs and my brain inhaling toxic metals. So I kicked cigs and vapes, progress I suppose.

Damn that must have taken a lot of willpower.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 21 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Thanks. It's a popular misconception that recovery is all about willpower when it's really not, when you try and white knuckle it you generally end up relapsing. A healthier approach is recognizing your triggers and trying to remove them as much as possible from your life, I found that works best. I still have my main trigger to deal with though and that's my dad but in the interim I can try and reduce the harm as much as possible.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

Oh totally. There's a ton of factors at play for sure.

I planted three super high visibility pollinator gardens, got a fourth approved, and in exchange for one of them I got a tour of an antique trolley maintenance shop. They're all in spaces where children can learn from otherwise degraded ornamental beds.

Lost kiwi species found in wild after 47 years

Up until now, we believed kiwi pukupuku/little spotted kiwi had gone extinct from mainland New Zealand. Our smallest kiwi is particularly vulnerable to introduced predators, and the last known sighting of a kiwi pukupuku on the mainland was in 1978. In the years since, despite targeted searching, we haven’t found any others.

Then, back in April, I received an email from a hunter we contracted for tahr control in the Adams Wilderness Area on the West Coast. The email included a short, blurry video of a kiwi looking for its next meal in a bed of fallen Dracophyllum leaves.

I have this coding project that's taken me hundreds of hours trying to recreate ERP from scratch as an open source resource. I didn't realize that giving it a choice between GUI and CLI was as ambitious as creating it in the first place. I was really anxious because I didn't know what to do in order to separate back end from front end and failed a few times, but this week I got it to work in an organized way.

It's going to have interchangable hosting, file storage, custom data parsing, custom file creation, page style, login+permission, etc. all ready to hopefully take a day or two to set up and make (the parsing, file generation, and persistent objects likely taking longer).

My work finally gave me a new pair of uniform pants after I've been asking off and on since goshdang november of last year.

I had to pull my manager aside and crotch-up at him so he could see the frayed inseam that had been giving me a rash for the previous couple of days.

The moment was soiled somewhat when I put them on and they were way tighter than I remember the last pair I got. I need to lose weight...

I hate my job so I applied to a two places that looked interesting. I'm going into my 3rd round at one place next week and a first round at the other one. I'm not sure if either of these will end up sticking, but sure is a confidence booster batting 2/2 in my first time looking for 7 years. No matter what I'll be leaving this place soon so that's good.

I bought a camera(Nikon D3500) and I've been really enjoying photography. I bought some small prints of my favourites so far.

Befriended another still-masking queer vegan; ordered onion rings and the guy gave me extra on the house.

I watched Kpop Demon Hunters and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. As a long time fan of TWICE it was great seeing the end-credits shots of Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeng in the studio

We may all die but if an intelligent species does evolve again on this earth hydrocarbons will be too difficult to get to bootstrap a second industrial revolution.

Care-Comrade you are more special to me than words and emojis can say, and I wish you more peace, fulfillment, health, wealth, and happiness than you can reasonably deal with in a single lifetime ❤️
