though the biggest factor is that the Moon is moving away from the Earth (who can blame it)

Just to avoid confusion for others that havent read the article. That's the reason the rotation has been slowing down for quite some time.

The reason it's spinning faster now is speculation for now and might be because of a shift in the earth's core, melting ice, earthquakes or some other causes.
