-The US government has tried for the second time to deport a stateless Palestinian woman, according to court documents – despite a judge’s order barring her removal.

-Ward Sakeik, a 22-year-old newlywed, was detained in February on her way home from her honeymoon in the US Virgin Islands. Last month, the government attempted to deport her without informing her where she was being sent, according to her husband, Taahir Shaikh. An officer eventually told her that she would be sent to the Israel border – just hours before Israel launched airstrikes on Iran.

-After her lawyers filed suit on behalf, US district judge Ed Kinkeade issued an order on 22 June barring the government from deporting Sakeik or removing her from the Texas district where she is being detained while her case is decided.

-But on Monday, the government tried once again to deport her. Officers at the detention facility woke her up early in the morning on Monday, and told her she “had to leave”. When she tried to tell the officer there was a court order blocking her removal, the officer responded: “It’s not up to me.”

So, who is going to go to jail for "Contempt of Court"?

This is the absolute pits. I know a Palestinian lad who was stateless until he got an Irish passport a few years back. I was so, so happy for him when he did.

Dumping a stateless person out into the unknown is one of the cruelest things you could do. But no....We can go lower.....

JFC :/

Sakeik’s family is from Gaza, but she was born in Saudi Arabia, which does not grant birthright citizenship to the children of foreigners

This is a similar story to my friend. Stateless Gazan parents but he was born in UAE and has never set foot on Palestinian soil. Horror story for that poor woman.

Judges' orders don't mean anything anymore. Haven't you heard?

You're right, asshole, it's not up to you, so you can fuck alllllll the way off.

I want to see these people start being held in contempt.

Wow. I'm sure she must have committed some pretty horrid crimes or there's good evidence that she put a lot of people at risk of great harm right?

[–] Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 23 hours ago

No they just really really want her to be raped and murdered in the middle east. These people are fucking sick.

I read somewhere that they claimed she left the US so she gets to be quick deported. She went to the US Virgin Islands, so...?

[–] ViatorOmnium@piefed.social 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The imbecile in chief didn't know Puerto Rico is an American Colony. Do you expect him and his lackeys to know about the Virgin Islands?

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh the update is that she flew over international waters and that constitutes leaving. Which means anyone flying anywhere outside the lower 48, even among the states could get caught up in this if the plane enters international waters at any point.

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 day ago

This doesn’t make sense with how laws regarding flights over international waters work, which is generally that the laws of the country the plane is registered to apply while in international waters. If you get on an American plane in the US and land in a US territory, that’s not leaving the US. They clearly started from their conclusion and worked backwards.

Preaching to the choir, I know.
