Fuck romanticizing "the grind".

[–] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 22 points 1 month ago

Oh the grind. I misread the whiteboard as Grindr.

[–] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can think of a hand full of grinds worth pursuing. The one for money isn't one of them.

Only worthwhile if you're independently pursuing your passion.

If my school told me no more furry drawings, I'd have probably drawn so much more that I got good at it and would be pretty well off right now after doing a lot of comissioned work for a rich dude who's really into giant versions of Starfox and Falco.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My school told me i'm not allowed to draw these Mad magazine style folding pictures anymore. So i became an expert in it and it never helped me in my real life at all

This is more or less how I found myself paying rent for art. Took limited art classes, just doodled everywhere and was told to stop. Posted stuff online in the early 2000s and caught a few stray commissions.

I felt this and the meme hard.

Some people would consider cat ears alone enough to qualify as furry. The same kinda people who would make that sign

[–] lime@feddit.nu 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

alright, get the chart out again...

I was on the internet for long enough, and in the old days, I've seen people calling kemonomimi (animal ears) not only furry, but also "borderline bestiality".

Why does almost everyone seem to draw the 🚫 symbol backwards? Even the Ghostbusters logo is guilty of this crime:

Ghostbusters logo

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 month ago

I never noticed there was a "right way". I see now that there is an ISO standard that is used for (eg) traffic control signs, but that alone doesn't make the other way backwards in situations where someone has hand-drawn a sign.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Id guess right handed people draw it "backwards" like that because they are more likely to draw a circle counterclockwise from the top, leaving them in position for a slash in that direction.

I do it that way because it's how I draw zeros (Ø). Oopsies

[–] wieson@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nah fam, / is the correct way. Even traffic signs are like that.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (6 children)

See? This is what I'm talking about. People like you are even misremembering the direction of the slash:

American "No Parking" sign, showing a backslash in the "no" symbol
European "No Parking" sign, also showing a backslash in the "no" symbol, thus proving me right

Why do so many people mis-remember this? What causes this phenomenon?

Draw a box around it and write DNE

[–] NeatNit@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hope it's permanent marker

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You can easily erase permanent marker from whiteboards with regular whiteboard markers.

[–] witchybitchy@lemm.ee 7 points 1 month ago

iirc it's the alcohol in the markers that do the disolving, so better to just get some 70% isopropyl and a cloth

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 5 points 4 weeks ago

putting ears on a human does not make it furry.

but fuck furry haters, all the same.
