Doing people a favor by discouraging them from coming here.

So who's betting with me that this won't be canceled ever, like TSA screenings, even if the US would find their way back to a democracy (after some very intense protests / a civil war 2.0 probably)?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

No it's fine, it's a defense mechanism.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Oof you're going to have a real "fun" time at the border explaining yours lmao

As someone who doesn't have any social media, aside from this place, I always wonder what the reaction would be to me.

[–] onoira@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 18 hours ago

from my experience dealing with nosy wouldbe-employers and being on an immigrant watchlist:

they don't believe for a second you don't use social media; and if you don't, then you did at some point, and they'll find it; and if they don't find it, then that's suspicious, because obviously everyone uses social media, so you must be a criminal, using some dark web social media. and then you get credit checked forty times, only for them to find you have no debt and thus no credit score, and then they just assume you're not a real person and call the cops.

Lemmy is a leftist platform, the devs literally calls themselves "Marxist-Leninists", so everyone here is guilty by association, they don't care about tankies vs anarchist vs Social Democrat vs Neoliberal, to the far right, you're all Maoists/Stalinists, which means you're kinda fucked lol.

Maybe if you were using reddit, and didn't post anything political, you could pass as an apolitical normie.

Just to make sure I keep the promise to myself to never visit this country:

"Fuck the US and especially you, Donnie!"

Yay World Cup!

Qatar doesn't sound as bad anymore

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

I am no one, but I lost all respect for players after Qatar. They and their fans will walk on dead bodies to any popular event. FIFA just has to lay on the red carpet over the bodies.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

2018 Russia, 2022 Qatar, 2026 US(Canda/Mexico), … 2034 Saudi Arabia

It’s not looking good Fifa.

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Although it will be kind of funny if the 2026 Canada and Mexico games are packed while no one shows up for the US games.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Not unlikely, the turnout for the Club World Cup which is happening in the US right now has been terrible.

You had PSG, the winner of the champions leage (think football super bowl) take on Athetico (one of the probably top 10 teams on earth), in LA, the second biggest city in the US, and they couldn’t even fill up the stadium 😭.

Wait there's a big futbol thing happening in LA? People in LA don't even know.

Every time I hear the news from the USA I think: it's not like things were peachy before Trump 2.0 or even 1.0. How much worse can it get?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

I mentally added the US to countries with weird draconian authoritarian rules like Russia, China, North Korea, etc.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Many countries are putting out tourism warnings for people wanting to travel there. Invasive practices on entry, chance of being detained if you're any number of minorities, generally more dangerous, and an increased risk of catching an infectious disease.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago

Yes, and fortunately, a lot of people seem to be paying attention. Our government thinks we don't need the rest of the world? Let us rot in isolation.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 24 points 2 days ago (4 children)

As my college RA who suffered from an extreme fear of zombies once told us during one of his multiple zombie preparedness meetings:

Never try lighting zombies on fire, especially if you're in the same building as them. You know what's the only thing worse than a bunch of zombies shambling up the stairs towards you? A bunch of zombies on fire shambling up the stairs towards you.

You underestimate our ability to analyze every problem and solution, and then light both of them on fire.

[–] jadedwench@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

They would not have liked the Humans vs Zombies events.

[–] Alpha71@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Except if destruction of the brain kills zombies, their heads would explode from the heat, probably within 5-10 minutes.

[–] notabot@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

He was forgetting the most important step: you have to nail their feet to the floor before you light them up.

[–] Nalivai@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, if you ever wonder how we got to this situation, the number of people who seriously prepare for zombie apocalypse and studying zombie movies for tips is non-zero. It's a depressingly non-zero number.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Higher than the number who prep for fascism or probable local disasters!

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 2 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

Oof.

But one thing my sister's partner said that stuck with me during the ramp-up to the pandemic about people refusing to take things seriously:

Remember these people when the zombie apocalypse starts because now you know who will hide the bite.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 19 hours ago

I think liberals (and fascists, in pretty much the same way) are so alienated from reality that stories abd feels are the only thing they can engage with ever.

Unfortunate that they can't engage critically.

FIVE YEARS? That’s an eternity in internet time. That’s like asking you to remember your 3rd grade nickname.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fun Fact: USCIS can see even juvenile records for the past 5 years, so if you just became 18, meaning, (example) that fight at school when you were 14 where you defended yourself against the racist xenophobia bully? That's on record. For adult records, they could see every arrest even if it never resulted in a conviction, and could make decisions based on arrests alone. Or of they have "enough evidence" suggesting you are a drug user or drug dealer, they could make you "inadmissible", even if there are zero arrests nor convictions.

For adult records, they can see all sealed records, expunged records, or even pardoned offenses, and make decisions based on that, and you're expected to answer honestly, otherwise if they find out like even decades after the fact, they can just revoke any visa, green card, or even citizenship. And all that was already a thing before this traitor scum got into office.

And people are saying "immigration is too lax", I'm like: Bitch, do you know how hard is it to get in? You probably don't even qualify had you not been born here

All those years of sarcasm, shitposts, jokes, photos of your pets, and memes will be the reason you won't gain entry into Nazi USA. 🤭

[–] axEl7fB5@lemmy.cafe 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Does this include my Lemmy profile?

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Especially your Lemmy profile. When you have to explain "federated" to USBP, you know they're 5 minutes from welcoming you to the US with open arms.
