Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If we ever get back power from these Nazis they need to spend the rest of their lives in a dark hole.

[–] neukenindekeuken@sh.itjust.works 35 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Or, hear me out, we bring back firing squads for treasonous traitors.

[–] orclev@lemmy.world 23 points 11 months ago (7 children)

If Trump somehow loses the next election they need to throw the entire book at him, then write a new book and throw that at him as well. We also need to add a few more amendments to the constitution to prevent this shit from happening again. Maybe eliminate political parties? Not sure exactly how to fix this but it's blatantly broken right now.

He lost this election. They just used every single method possible to squeak out the smallest of possible wins.

First and last links are the data. The middle links are for us stupid people that need to be told how to read the data in the last link.

[–] LogicalFallacy@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Thanks for telling me to use the middle links

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Now do the three shells, am I right? ;-)

[–] LogicalFallacy@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Thanks a lot you shit-brained, fuck-faced, ball breaking, duck fucking pain in the ass

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 24 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Executive orders have to go. This is just ridiculous at this point how they are being used.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Some limits on pardoning would be great too.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago (2 children)

What are you talking about? He got SCOTUS to say everything he does as president is legal, remember? He’ll never do time for anything.

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Ok, so hear me out, if he doesn't care about the rule of law, why should we?

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world -3 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Because it’s what makes us better than him.

Criminals don’t care about the rule of law. Does that mean we civilians should just execute shoplifters in the streets without trial or due process?

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Now society has other reasons to not take the actions in your strawman, but if a government is in violation of the social contract, then it can expect its governed to extend it no such luxury.

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

This person gets it!

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

Does that mean we civilians should just execute shoplifters in the streets without trial or due process?

That's not what I said, though, and I'm pretty sure that's some kind of logical fallacy being used. I'm talking about tRump, not all people. That's why I said what I said. Think of it as tit-for-tat or an eye-for-an-eye. Where if he doesn't think people should get due process, then neither should he.

Also, that's pretty extreme considering what I said.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 months ago

Maybe eliminate political parties?

So, direct government like the Swiss ? (Ie it's totally possible)

[–] mrnarwall@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (3 children)

He is ineligible for the next one. Don't ever forget that

[–] BBQuicktime@thelemmy.club 6 points 11 months ago

You know damn good and well he's going to try to get a third/permanent term. Supreme Court basically gave him free reign to do whatever he wants now, so at this point I'm rooting for the Mickey D's to finally finish the job.

[–] orclev@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

The problem is who's going to stop him? He already said he's planning to run for a third term. Track record isn't looking great, he seems to have figured out that if he just does things and ignores the law nobody stops him.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

His children aren't.

then write a new book and throw that at him as well.

No, the Constitution prohibits ex post facto laws. A law you are punished for must be on the books before the crime you commit that it prohibits is committed.

The federal government is prohibited from doing so:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_One_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Section_9:_Limits_on_Federal_power

No Bill of attainder or Ex post facto law shall be passed.

And state governments:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_One_of_the_United_States_Constitution#Section_10:_Limits_on_the_States

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

[–] Goodmorningsunshine@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

You take power back. They're not going to just give it.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

It is high time to actively suspend the White House. That right is older than your country!

[–] Tower@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago

Steve Vladeck has a great substack article explaining this. The paid version goes into a more detail, but even the free portion gives a great explainer about just how fucking wrong Steven Miller is.

Thanks BBC for auto-fucking-playing the video and not allowing me to pause or mute it.

[–] GiuseppeAndTheYeti@midwest.social 3 points 11 months ago

At the very least you can mute the tab
