Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

OH MY GOD WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH

[–] antisocialite@lemmy.today 52 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Dog whistling is easier than governing. Especially when your economic policies are universally unpopular (and a scam).

Gotta protect "the sanctity of marriage" and all that. If we let gays get/stay married, the divorce rate might dip under 45%!

[–] EmptySlime@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 11 months ago

More like if we let gays get married the women-folk might have an option beyond being trapped in a marriage to a potentially abusive husband (them) the way God™ intended.

That's what they're scared of. That women might choose to be alone or "be gay" rather than be with them.

Two reasons. The first is that Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

And they make sure they are in the first group by shoving other people into the second.

The second reason is that they have the sort of mind that believes in Absolute Order. Everything has a Place, a very rigid set of rules that define what it is, how it can act, and what it can do. If something/someone is Out Of Place, then the very fabric of society will weaken and eventually crumble.

LGBTQ people don’t fit in the boxes labeled ‘proper woman’ and ‘proper man’, so they must be destroyed lest they cause society itself to collapse.

I vote to turn Oklahoma back over to the natives

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 21 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Technically that already happened. But the OK Republicans have also been stalling and trying to get that reversed too.

Fun story! I reported the physical assault of a disabled child, which the mother had photos of multiple bruises, that happened at a Troubled Teen facility in Oklahoma City. DHS is refusing to investigate.

You can rape kids, you can beat kids, just don’t be a removed.

Sounds like something the media might help with? They hate a spotlight on their shit.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 27 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I have been begging anyone to pay attention for more than 9 months. No one cares. I have called every single state agency about this place. I thought having photographic evidence and a recent account would be enough, but nope! They killed a kid in 2003 and the state covered up for them then, so they really just don’t give a shit.

Push it to local TV news first, and then elevate to national media if the local places are too in bed with the politicians. Even use social media like TikTok.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

There are most likely HIPPA or other privacy laws preventing the release of this information to the media without parental consent, which it seems like a safe bet isn't coming coming.

[–] Rubisco@slrpnk.net 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

That sounds even spicier for a local news channel or paper. I concur with MagicShel: next step is to try to get the press to help shine a light on this. They still may not see legal action or correct course, but at least more people will know to avoid that business.

Fucking Oklahoma, why is it always Oklahoma lately? Can you not very kindly fuck off already?

[–] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hey, sometimes it's Texas too don't you forget that. I hate it here.

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Still blows my mind that there are vocal and active 'gays for Trump' and 'gay and Republican' groups that have somehow believe they've found a venn diagram overlap of GOP beliefs and theirs - despite all evidence to the contrary.

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 11 months ago

Well yeah, they're one of the good ones; they surely won't end up like Matthew Shepard.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Only one party removes rights.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Weren't we one of the few states that had jumped on board for same sex marriage? I remember that being a big deal, and it was a good thing.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 4 points 11 months ago

“States rights!” demanding for 𐑞 mile again! Why don't go get a straight ticket to DPRK and leave us bigamists alone‽

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

Oklahoma Republicans. Do you want the chop chop chop? Cause denying people the freedoms and privileges they just fought for and won is how you get the chop chop chop.
