How are there people at Snapchat HQ going like: "We know what the users want: A terrible AI-Chat forced on them and avatars that don't have our iconic style, but rather a look like they're from your deepest nightmares. Push the update everyone! We are their heroes!"

The ai thing was so stupid. I cringe every time i see it

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 26 points 1 year ago (3 children)

It's a cash grab. You have to pay to remove it.

[–] Tuss@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

I actually managed to report it for spam and remove it.

[–] imkali@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Everything snapchat does is a cash grab

[–] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

And they still aren’t profitable at sll

[–] ZapBeebz_@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You know it's a great service when you charge people to not have to deal with it

[–] sygnius@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

I keep forgetting that Snapchat is still around until I see a post like this

[–] rem26_art@kbin.social 29 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Everyone looked at Nintendo's Mii's and just ignored everything that made them charming

[–] Crow@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There’s a chance Nintendo has successfully patented everything about miis that made them charming. Heck, they’ve tried to patent loading screens having info on them.

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

they tried to patent the gameplay mechanics for Tears of the Kingdom so I'm not surprised if they've done this too.

[–] graymess@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Miitomo was the best social media platform ever conceived. The world just wasn't ready for it.

[–] TheSpermWhale@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Are social media companies scared that if they don’t update often enough people will stop using their app?

[–] FQQD@feddit.de 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I can imagine they are, but honestly, these updates probably make users leave even more

[–] Prethoryn@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

They don't, and honestly, Snapchat is what most of Gen Z is using to the point I believe it has even confused Facebook so Facebook has copied Snapchat.

Snapchat also has even more reason to update and appeal to that age group.

[–] PupBiru@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago

“you know what worked real well? the metaverse! let’s copy their avatars!”

“ooooh yeah great idea bob! we don’t have any legs either so it’s perfect!”

[–] GenderNeutralBro@lemmy.sdf.org 18 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'm not Snapchat's prime demographic. But damn that's ugly.

[–] BolexForSoup@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

In your defense, Snapchat has no idea what its prime demographic is.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

My 14 just old son thinks they look terrible, so I don't think they hit ANY demographic with that.

[–] FQQD@feddit.de 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

like, who looks at this and says, second one is so much better damnnn

[–] mrbubblesort@kbin.social 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

to be honest, I think both are pretty cringe

[–] FQQD@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

yeah, it's kinda hard making a decent avatar, but idc, i just use Snapchat to connect with a few friends

[–] mrbubblesort@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

lol, sorry, wasn't calling you out specifically or anything. I meant in a more general sense

[–] bappity@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I thought the first style made people look like pedophiles this one is worse

Imagine using snapchat lmao

[–] Polar@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago

This is the 3rd redesign in the last 2 years lol. Damn.

[–] Oha@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 9 points 1 year ago
