Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

Thank you Spez for banning my account of nine years for voicing my political opinion! I made many contributions to communities over the years and now you’ve lost that so good fucking bye.

Now create another account and repeat the same steps until they ban your IP

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 1 points 8 minutes ago

You get an achievement for that? Cuz I'm eligible.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 20 points 3 hours ago
[–] purrtastic@lemmy.nz 4 points 2 hours ago

Still on Reddit? Use a comment and post wiper now, before you get banned.

[–] Darkcoffee@sh.itjust.works 76 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Seriously, shareholders kill what they invest in it's surreal.

[–] brax@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 hours ago

It's always been like that. They're parasite - they ruin the thing they latch on to, then they jump ship with fat stacks of cash and move on to the next product to kill.

[–] peachmtn@lemm.ee 45 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

What opinion got you banned?

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 13 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Perhaps a comment about Louie G.

[–] SourDrink@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Funny thing, I've been calling him Manny G

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 70 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

OP conveniently omitting that detail suggests that popcorn may be in order.

[–] SuperSaiyanSwag@lemmy.zip 1 points 44 minutes ago

I don’t want to doubt OP too hard, but yea, at least tell us what you said so we are not blindly siding with you

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Probably just practical observations for how to improve things

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 19 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Or just expressing his love for a certain Super Mario Brother.

[–] TangledHyphae@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

I got a warning for upvoting a Luigi post (or a post that reddit deemed as "wrongthink"), the bot didn't say which sub or post that triggered it so it's kind of impossible to say for sure or even avoid getting banned from upvoting something they don't like.

[–] peachmtn@lemm.ee 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

Or a racist and violent tirade.

They’re all just baseless theories until they reveal what they actually said.

[–] limer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Does Reddit ban for racism ?

[–] Upgrayedd1776@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

only if you upvote something that might condone violence against racists

[–] TuxEnthusiast@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 hours ago

I have said some wild stuff and never been permabanned. What did you post?

[–] MotherForker@lemmy.zip 26 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Man... I wen't through so many permas on reddit. I am so happy that the alternative is forming

[–] bamboo@lemm.ee 14 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

We’ve been here for a few years, but we’re grateful to have new people!

[–] Cephiroth@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Ready for the explosion of users! I hope Lemmy is ready as well.

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 20 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Honestly, I shouldn't still be pissed about my ban but I can't help it.

I was on reddit for over 10 years with millions of fake internet points

Sitewide banned me for no discernable reason

It's been a couple of months and they still haven't even bothered to respond to my appeal

Now that I see how reddit's going down the tube, I don't even care if they respond at this point

I'm done with it

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

Same here. No reason. No response. Fuck those guys. And fuck Spez.

[–] RangerJosey@lemmy.ml 19 points 6 hours ago

My account was 17 years old when I was banned without explanation.

[–] TheLiveFive@lemm.ee 12 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Kinda nice to get banned though. I was banned from xitter for liking a comment critical of the muskman, it really helped reinforce that I needed to be done with that place though. Maybe I'll move on from Reddit before that happens...

[–] Kualdir@feddit.nl 5 points 5 hours ago

Hey at least you got banned! I just keep getting network errors on mine which is clearly shadow banned since logging in on any other account on the same device does work normally.

[–] Gingerlegs@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

My account was 11 years old when I left. Destroyed all my data, thank you very much

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 7 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Once you're banned, do your previous posts and comments get deleted? Or do you just lose access to them?

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

You just lose access

[–] DistressedDad@lemmy.ca 10 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

You can still browse and your comments still remain up. But you can no longer post or comment further. I'll still get upvotes / replies to old comments. I just can't respond

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 5 hours ago

Don't be distressed about it, dad. You're here now. You're safe.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Thanks for clarifying!

[–] kitnaht@lemmy.world 0 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

And just think, you guys were the ones who didn't leave back when it was going down the shitter because you disagreed with the opinions of the people they were banning.

This isn't even exactly a haven for wrongthink either. /r/fatpeoplehate couldn't exist on Lemmy, so most people coming over aren't even really concerned with political opinions being silenced, so much as they care about their particular political opinion being silenced.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

It absolutely could exist. It's just likely that a lot of servers would defederate them. That's kind of the beauty of federation.

[–] kitnaht@lemmy.world -4 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Well there ya go. Turns out the fediverse isn't about freedom from corporations - and it's just about creating your own brand of filter bubble.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Turns out, those are sort of the same thing. You are given the power to shape your feed how you want it instead of how some corporation wants it.

[–] kitnaht@lemmy.world -2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

Yes, but federation controls that on a wider level by adjusting what you're allowed to see and interact with. Therefore, someone above you gets to control that still. That's the point I'm making.

If everything federated by default, and users could sign up for filter lists or something to make it easy - sure. But that's not how it works.

Lemmy even did the same thing Reddit is doing now, where if you mentioned a certain topic they were banning people; but they walked it back. I believe it was even the same topic of Luigi and "advocating violence".

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago

Therefore, someone above you gets to control that still.

There is nothing stopping you from running your own Lemmy instance and choosing to federate with whomever you choose.

Lemmy even did the same thing Reddit is doing now

Which Lemmy instance? If you don't like it, just join a different one.

This is all the beauty of not only federation, but also open source.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 2 points 5 hours ago

It really depends. World is friends with pretty much everyone with a few notable exceptions. There are definitely instances that care about that, but you can’t force an isolationist instance to communicate with you.

Freedom goes both ways. It also means freedom to form a bubble.
