USA was never "great" . It is a country founded by slavery and genocide of native people

[–] hydroptic@sopuli.xyz 36 points 1 day ago

Yup, that's what they mean. That's the greatness they want back.

It could be great despite it's atrocious history. It ISN'T, but it could have be.

the funny thing is that in episode 8 omni man beats the shit out of mark in order to get him to invade earth. Seems familiar.

spoilerAnd then Invinsible says he will still have him once everyone else is dead and gone.

Probably where the similarities end though.

It used to offer the best general living conditions (for a race at least) for like 40-ish years! Mainly because the rest of the world had to get back on its feet after the world wars!

But after decades of hard work against your(?) very own interests not anymore

Being great is much different from being rich/easy/fun

Greatness stems from ethics and values, the values that america was and is based upon are lying, slaughter, bullying and selfishness.

America can never be great. The ground you walk on is held by the blood and bones of the true owners of that land, and millions of others who america slaughtered and is stil slaughtering for it's own "freedom" (which doesn't exist)

Are you an anarchist, like you don't believe any state can be "great"?

Or do you believe, somehow, that the US's historical actions are unique?

[–] theUwUhugger@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago

I was not talking about any sort of ethics? The really has been actively dumbing its ppl down since vietnam!

No, living conditions objectively used to be the best! In the 80-s the minimal wage was 3. something dollars while a bigmac only cost 25 pennies(?)! And you can argue, successfully mind you, that does not excuse its crimes against humanity as if its wealth were to steam from that… But life used to be, or at least I heard, great in the us! Shame, well not for us but for you guys, that communism ended and that your(?) non-democratic system has no longer any reason to provide you with good lives!
