WHITE GENOCIDE NNOW

Pretty sure that's supposed to be Jaleel White on the left, as per the Indian Culture post earlier.

Those fucking teeth are off-putting. Like, they're too perfect but not in a "celebrity who got extensive work done on them" kind of way

More movies like Whiplash

Oh, he didn't understand that movie at all.

We've awaken...

The irony of making a dumb grammar error in the conclusion of your shitty effort post about inferior amerikkkan culture is palpable.

I seriously think that, as far as we want to keep doing dumb culture war stuff, the media literacy attack is so powerful. These chuds seriously always misunderstand media. It's always so easy to point it out, too, and I think it's just generally good because while it's hard to explain why their view of the world is wrong to people who share those views, it's easy to point out the contradictions and objectively wrong takes like thinking Whiplash is a movie that promotes a strict work ethic.

I never saw it. If I'm remembering correctly wasn't it about an asshole who yells at some kid to make him good at drums. I figured the point was something like you don't actually have to be abusive to help someone learn to play drums. I'm pretty confident my guess is way closer than Vivek's take

[-] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Kid becomes incredibly good at drums but is also completely destroyed by the abuse and toxic drive JK Simmons's character tries to instill in him. Movie outright states that he's probably going to burn out and die young, but JK's character supports this sort of thing because that's how you get true art and talent out of people, according to him anyway. Great video on the movie actually

so basically The Bear but music?

Also we see Schillinger probably end more promising young careers than he creates. He's basically produced (well not even then lmao) one prodigy while ending the lives of multiple people, along with their love of music, all for the sake of his own ego. And this one student basically proves by the end of the film he didn't need this teacher at all.

There's a scene in the later half of the film where we see the teacher playing piano at a jazz club and it's the most mid, low-effort elevator music possible. The film is pretty upfront about how much of a fuckup this guy is and how much of his "teaching" is him bullying people who are actually better than he is because it makes him feel like his life has meaning.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

Yeah, basically Vivek thinks the villain of Whiplash was actually correct, but he phrases it like that's the default way to watch the movie. It's like watching Star Wars and automatically thinking that the Empire is supposed to be the good guys.

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 30 points 1 week ago

Conservatives siding with abusive men? shocked-pikachu

It's so predictable
