I'm very fond of that story.
Imagine God itself yelling at your whole bible club "this dude is right because I say so" and this dipshit going "akchually you don't have authority here, so fuck off, sir" and not getting killed instantly.
why? I don't know it
The oven of ¿Arkhai? something like that. The story is about an oven and many people end up dying for the wrath of a rabbi who didn't like how it was built, or did like how it was built but the rest of rabbis didn't.
This is just so casually said in that article
It was said that Rabbi Eliezer had the power to destroy the whole world, yet due to the respectful manner in which he was ostracized, only a third of the world's crops were destroyed.
Fun read, thanks for the link.
The ideal is for children to surpass their parents as much as possible, all the groveling and thoughtless zealot-sycophants when they frame their religion of choice as a divine family weirds me out.
Goated story. I really like the way Judaism tries to follow the letter of the law and not the spirit. If God didn't want us to have loopholes he wouldn't have written them in! (Of course this has the same practical failings as following the spirit of the law, but it's more internally consistent and also funnier.)
god can smile?
There is nothing it can't do except win an argument about an oven
And prove it exists
