Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts about to spend 1500$ on a keyboard missing over half it's keys

[-] hperrin@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Two Alt keys and no space bar?

I am pleased that you didn't use A or Z.

Quality shitpost, sir!

[-] Allonzee@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Why would you include both caps lock AND shift but omit A and Z?!

[-] kamen@lemmy.world 57 points 19 hours ago

Ironically enough, talking about cutting expenses, the keyboard in the photo could easily cost 10 times more than the typical 100% keyboard you'd find in a corporate office.

[-] Crafter72@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 18 hours ago

Especially when they have luxury of lubed switches, foam, dampeners/stabilizers, custom case material (that keeb def. Custom one).

[-] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

Don’t forget keycaps! It’s where the real money is lost.

That set looks like GMK Blue Samurai, which sells new for $150.

[-] Crafter72@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 6 hours ago

Keycaps is where I always avoid because that's what makes keyboard standout other than the overall produced sound.

~~Still saving for my keycaps sets~~

[-] kogasa@programming.dev 4 points 12 hours ago

Keycaps are expensive but you can easily spend $500 on a keyboard chassis/plate/pcb alone

[-] Crafter72@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

They def pricier on chassis, plate (foam too!) and ready-to-use designed pcb with components. However from my own experience building your own keyboard is fun especially when the result is as good as you expected from planning stage. Pure bliss.

~~Hello fellow 2hu youkai~~

[-] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

True. I was mostly thinking about having to buy keycaps aftermarket when the prices double/triple and having to source all the different kits.

Personally, I think I have three times as many keycap sets than I do keyboards.

[-] kamen@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

I was even thinking just about the case - good CNCd aluminium has come down in price, but it's still expensive. You also have a point, I agree.

[-] Black616Angel@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 14 hours ago

But wait!
This keyboard has 45 keys and not 100 like most normal keyboards, so they cut 55%!

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 43 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Shift is A, Caps Lock is Z, Control & Backspace is spacebar.

Don't ask me why, I just searched the image and found the reddit thread that this post is riffing from and got my answers

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 19 hours ago

bruh why would they make spacebar a two key combo. That is literally the most used key

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 23 points 19 hours ago

Even though I told you don't ask me why.. you're asking me why. But I'm a good donut so I went back:

They dont have to press BOTH keys to press space, they just didnt have a spacebar key that is the correct size to fit, so they put those 2 random keys on instead until they get a permanent keycap set that all fits.

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 hours ago

thanks. For the record, you are a great donut

[-] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Ooohhh, keycap issue.

[-] xthexder@l.sw0.com 2 points 11 hours ago

Less used than the Code key apparently. Their editor must crash A LOT if they need a dedicated button to launch it more than A or Space

[-] abfarid@startrek.website 4 points 19 hours ago

They meant to say "Control or* Backspace is Space", right? Right?!

[-] variants@possumpat.io 2 points 18 hours ago

Yeah both are individual space bars, at least that's how mine is since I hit space with either thumb

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Wait you have one of these? Who all is using this keyboard?

[-] variants@possumpat.io 2 points 16 hours ago

No haha mine is like a regular 65% but it's split down the middle so I have two small space bars one for each hand

At least you still can press Alt+F4

[-] fl42v@lemmy.ml 2 points 14 hours ago

You cab remap it to required less finger gymnastics... I prefer super+q, personally.

[-] Dirk@lemmy.ml 23 points 21 hours ago

Itrieditandiamnothappythatthereisnospacebaronthatkeyboard.

[-] Nikko882@lemmy.world 15 points 20 hours ago

You couldn't have written this on that keyboard. That keyboard has no a (or z).

[-] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 8 points 20 hours ago

The central control probably is set to spacebar, i dont think they make small space bars and they already have another control key down the right.

It does however not have an “a” key, so maybe yours is misconfigured so the control-spacebar is the letter a?

[-] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 11 hours ago

Wtf is code?

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 4 points 17 hours ago

FN key on quadruple duty

[-] verstra@programming.dev 7 points 20 hours ago

Can someone explain why this would be even slightly useful to anyone?

How does one type without a and z?

[-] Mango@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago
[-] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago

The left Shift is A, and Caps Lock is Z.

To get those keys to function as Shift/Caps you would need to hold down the Fn key (bottom right).

I’m all for minimalist keyboards, but this shit is a bit too ridiculous.

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 19 hours ago

this is a fancy mechanical keyboard and can be programmed. The missing keys are typed using key combinations.

In general I love the reprogrammability of mech keyboards, but this one is fucking weird ngl

[-] elidoz@lemmy.ml 4 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

it is possible if you get enough time to think of every word, you just need to to find synonims so you don't write specific letters, often needing to switch both words/speech style

(it's very difficult though, I've been writing this comment for 5 to 10 minutes)

I want a keyboard that is just one main key with 100 or so modifier keys surrounding it.

[-] Cargon@lemmy.ml 4 points 18 hours ago

Let's embrace that stenotype life.

[-] Frozzie@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago
[-] Dasnap@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago

You've got an 'S' key, so that's enough.

Perfect for ordering some pissa

[-] vaionko@sopuli.xyz 3 points 19 hours ago

Fun fact: "pissa" means piss in Finnish

[-] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 4 points 18 hours ago

But can you still order it online?

I SO hate the CapsLock, the most useless key in the best of locations. I converted it to XCape on all my keebs!

[-] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 3 points 14 hours ago

Usually on boards like this it's remapped to Ctrl, Esc or whatever you actually want. At this point having the caps button still there is purely cosmetic.
