I wouldn’t tell the most hardened and trusted antifascist where she’s hiding. Loose lips sink ships, and good infosec begins with shutting your damn trap.

You know who to give a bit of extra food to. That’s all you need to know aside from the fact that that friend always had a higher metabolism than you so you’d rather ensure they get their fill. That’s it. You know nothing else. If you’re asked about creaking attics lots of attics creak. You can’t let slip what you don’t know so don’t get curious and don’t open up.

I want to add, get in the habit of helping people and never telling anyone. Every day is a good day to practice helping people around you and not getting caught. Help someone take in their shopping. Help a stranger jump their car. Help an unhoused person get groceries. The less you hear strangers, friends, or family saying they saw you help someone, the more you'll know you can do it in the future, when being seen is dangerous.

I do... a lot to help people. As often as I can. And every time I get zero recognition, I know I passed a stealth check.

Also, remember, if you're helping someone and someone else asks what you were doing, now is a time to practice obfuscation.

Additionally nobody suspects the person everyone recognizes as helpful as helping in a dangerous way. And they don’t suspect anything of their helping them.

I’ll also say, practice saying the lies you expect to have to tell. “I don’t know anyone like that around here” “I swear allegiance to the party” “I was at home all night reading”

What's funny is that the majority of people in LA aren't actually natives. The whole LA people thing is spread and caused by the same people who complain about it ironically enough. I practice obfuscation in my conversations almost 24/7 I'm so good at this point

I've never been to LA but I find that easy to believe. Im proud of you for practicing. We can all use more practice.

In general if you have a life or death secret, DO NOT share it with anyone, not your family, not your friends, not anyone.

If you are hiding Anne Frank, shut the fuck up.

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 35 points 3 days ago

Is it shut the fuck up Friday?

[-] scutiger@lemmy.world 25 points 3 days ago

Every day is Shut the Fuck Up Friday.

Didn't know that was a thing, but I'm all for it.

Ah, here's the sauce: https://youtu.be/uqo5RYOp4nQ

Know it, live it, share it.

And don't become a major public figure. Definitely DON'T run for office. Read Kevin Mitnick's art of invisibility and understand that it is 10 years old. Don't get a security clearance.

I.e. blend in and stay under the radar.

3 people can keep a secret if two of them are dead. Even then though, people suck at keeping secrets.

Disinformation is very real. Many people think they are doing the right thing... even as they turn you in to the gestapo.

None of us are fully immune, though dayum some are a helluva lot more gullible than others.

Just Anne Frank? I won't even tell them where I'm hiding. Who needs these people!

Weird name for a community but checks out

I wouldn't tell where she's hiding either? Am I misreading this?

[-] scutiger@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I think the point is we all know people who would.
