People think you have to go through a ritual. You don’t, at least in my opinion, you don’t.

This is my favorite part because on the surface it seems as if he’s stupid enough to think that tossing in a casual “you know, this is just like, my opinion bro” is going to shield him.

But I think what’s really going on here is Trump’s trying to prime the idea in his base that if he’s guilty of anything it’s just not understanding the law… Ignorance of the law is not a legal defense but it definitely wouldn’t stop him from getting his base to embrace it as the defacto talking point since he doesn’t have anything else.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 78 points 1 year ago

Except when he was recorded talking to the reporter to whom he was showing the documents, he admitted to knowledge of the law.

[–] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 39 points 1 year ago

people think you have to follow the law. You don't, at least I never do and nothing bad has ever happened to me!

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It worked even on democrats when he was in the office.

That's why calling him stupid is so dangerous. Most people stupid get away with a lot of things.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 53 points 1 year ago (9 children)

Trump is classically stupid, in that he is uneducated, illiterate, and incurious. But there's more than one kind of intelligence, and he displays large amounts of cunning, conniving, and a sense of showmanship to impress and inspire other classically stupid people.

That's why writing him off is so dangerous.

It is hilarious that he and his followers think he can just "this is all a big misunderstanding" his way out of this.

Either he's the dumbest fucking person on the planet. Or he's really shitting bricks behind the scene.

See, I really think people should stop seeing some huge agenda in everything this guy and similar people say/do. He's just plain idiotic and it's plainly idiotic people voting for candidates like him. Still dangerous, but just dangerously dumb in the end.

[–] TheJims@lemmy.world 98 points 1 year ago

I like Presidents that aren’t under Federal Indictment under the Espionage Act.

[–] Boddhisatva@lemmy.world 95 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And this is why everyone says the defense in all his trials fights to keep him off the stand. He cannot help but incriminate himself. He can't stop bragging, including bragging about his crimes.

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 58 points 1 year ago

It's almost like he is a textbook narcissist.

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't think that's the reason. After observing him, it looks like his strategy whenever something bad is happening to either distract or with another controversy that is not visible as bad to his base, or if he knows about something that is upcoming, then first come up with own version and normalize it so it no longer has a shock value to his fans.

He didn't seem to have problem with keeping his mouth shut when testifying.

[–] moistclump@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

You’re being very generous about how much he understands the going-ons beyond what has to immediately do with him.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Which might work in the media, but not in court. In court, they keep coming back to the thing the trial is actually about.

[–] sadbehr@lemmy.nz 44 points 1 year ago

Now, the other people that we talk about, including Biden, he wasn’t president. So what he did is a different standard. And he should have real problems. They really should be talking about that. Not about me. I did absolutely nothing wrong.

The level of cognitive dissonance here is just absolutely mind blowing.

I’ve got a question about the classified document case. Do you think I should get Jiffy Pop original or Orville Redenbacher microwave for my nightly news recaps?

[–] insomniac_lemon@kbin.social 27 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You should obviously get Pop-Secret.

[–] JudahBenHur@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Uncle Oscar is my father??

[–] MelodiousFunk@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Pop Secret Homestyle, to be exact.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Air popper + butter + salt + (trust me on this one) brewers/nutritional yeast.

Super addictive, but watch out for kernels.

[–] norbert@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nutritional yeast is great on popcorn! It has a slightly cheesy taste to me. It adds another layer of flavor to simple buttery salty popcorn.

[–] JBloodthorn@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The 2 secret ingredients in badass cheese sauce are nutritional yeast and a tiny bit of yellow mustard.
Cheese sauce which is great with tortilla chips, for people who can't eat popcorn. (I had bad teeth too, I see you)

[–] insomniac_lemon@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

TBH, I would just go for air-popped (more options for flavor anyway, and butter+salt is easy to get right).

I did look up reviews of microwave popcorn, and things seem pretty mixed (probably due to different preferences with oil and salt).

[–] krayj@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Get the Kirkland Brand Movie Theater Popcorn with Butter from Costco - it's great popcorn, is cheap, and comes in the mega-pack size you are going to need to get through all the cases.

[–] ThePantser@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have a question, do you ever get a box that only pops half a bag. Like its a bad batch of corn. Then sometimes I get a box and it pops 101% of a bag and it's every package. It's weird shit.

[–] krayj@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

I have never gotten an inconsistent pop like that. I sometimes get bags that get all popped but a few, and sometimes I get a few dozen unpopped kernels, and everything in between, but I have never had half the bag fail.

[–] SoylentBlake@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

I think you should go to the movie theater and buy some real popcorn for the RICO case in GA

Since that's the only one that'll be shown live on TV.

[–] Canopyflyer@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Buy an oil popper.

Then go buy butter flavored coconut oil

Then pick up Flavocol

Enjoy your movie theater level popcorn at a fraction of the cost.

[–] Whirling_Ashandarei@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait is this really what makes it better? I have q popper and the oil (tho a different brand that's prob less nice) but not whatever flavocol is.

[–] AssPennies@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Flavocol is what really punches you in the pleasure center of the brain... oh yeah and heart attacks, it contains plenty of heart attacks.

That's why it tastes so good.

[–] ZeroCool@feddit.ch 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

AMC Theaters actually released a line of microwave popcorn in grocery stores a few months ago. If you can find it in your area I’d stock up on that. It’s pretty good!

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (3 children)

They should just take the next step and release popcorn flavored butter.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

In my searching to see if anyone has actually done that, I didn't find anything, but it did lead me to this and I may have to find some. Even though they hated it.

[–] solidgrue@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mmm. Savory diacetyl grain alcohol drool

[–] norbert@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Naturally flavored (inexplicably).

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

That’d be great on toast!

[–] norbert@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

You're a genius, I want popcorn flavored butter now.

[–] Jaywarbs@artemis.camp 2 points 1 year ago

You should get Pop Qwiz - the stuff from the early 90s that came in different colors and you’d find out what it was when you opened the bag.

[–] jpj007@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

One of those giant cans of butter, caramel, and cheese popcorn.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Bruh. Make ur own and add 1/4-1/2c of sugar to it to make kettle corn.

[–] TheOneAndOnly@lemm.ee 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The man cannot even put together a single coherent sentence.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

A Republican intellectual!

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

You don’t, at least in my opinion, you don’t.

Did you murder this guy? "Well in my opinion, stabbing a guy 50 times with a knife isn't killing him, he just decided to stop breathing by himself, at least in my opinion."

The law doesn't give a shit about your opinion you shit stain
