Of all the people who took part in the breakdancing, I only remember one name... RAYGUN, pew pew.

[-] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

I remember Phil Wizard, who won gold in the men’s competition. And Danny Dan who won silver, Victor who won bronze, and Shigekix who lost the bronze match.

I can’t seem to find the men’s finals on YouTube but if you can find it I highly recommend it. It was awesome. I really hope Breaking returns in 2032, the level of sportsmanship and joy the competitors showed was amazing.

I never though I'd see a GPK in a certified case...

I stuck hundreds of them over everything I owned when they were the style of the day.

Wait, what's the connection between raygun and the hawk tuah girl?

[-] protist@mander.xyz 68 points 2 months ago

In the show, the Ramones performed, Mr. Burns was offended, and he tells Smithers "Have the Rolling Stones killed."

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

Thank you! It's been nearly 20 years since I watched the Simpsons regularly.

The meme is Mr Burns confuses two celebrities and orders one killed in his massive disappointment.

[-] whydudothatdrcrane@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago

I laughed more when I did not get the joke.

[-] Ack@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 months ago

They both went viral somewhat recently. I think that’s the joke, Burns is so old and out of touch he mixed them up.

[-] ganymede@lemmy.ml 24 points 2 months ago

i reckon there's a good chance she was trolling. and if so, fuckin well played.

[-] Zagorath@aussie.zone 25 points 2 months ago

Her most memed moments came from her third contest, after she had failed to score a single point in her first 2.

So yeah, I think she might have been having some fun with it the third time around. She knew she wouldn't progress out of the pool phase, so why not have fun with it?

Yoa doawg! Course I was trollin'! B-girls be whack N I jus be keeping it real bruh! - Raygun

She's either the next Ali-G or just a starry-eyed dreamer who wasn't about to let her mom-bod get in the way of her aspirations. Either way I give her props and hope she has the ability to share in some of the laughter she brought to the world. Im glad she's out there keeping it real.

[-] ReplicantBatty@lemmy.one 9 points 2 months ago

You ain't gonna like it...

It's all over TikTok right now, just search 'breakdance australia' or something similar.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Ahhh, I always forget about TikTok. I'll go check. Thanks.

What's up with that green person? I'm out of the loop

[-] lseif@sopuli.xyz 28 points 2 months ago

[-] artemisRiverborne@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Australian person who basically got the gov to pay for her trip to Paris under the guise of participating in the breakdancing portion of the Olympics. She studies culture or something so some ppl think she was making a statement by being terrible

[-] JohnyRocket@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 months ago

Not entirely. She did qualify to represent Australia in Bbeaking, not just some rando australian and she does study culture, the cultural politics of breakdancing.

Thanks for the additional info 🙏

[-] auzy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

At least she gave things a try, unlike most people

Raise your hands if you've been in the Olympics..

Me and my mates so stupid stuff all the time just to mess around.. It's better to try something and fail then not try at all. And she'll have a great pub story

Me and my mates so stupid stuff all the time just to mess around

And when you’re messing around, are you representing your entire nation live? She arguably hurt the sport by delegitimizing it on its debut

[-] auzy@lemmy.world -5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Hell nah. Give it a go.

I started a Meetup group a few years ago as a hobby despite no formal training. My group has now outlived many others and I'm surprised by how many people I meet on hikes who have heard of my group and actually listen to my advice these days.

Don't forget about the guy either who ran an ultra marathon with no real training here in Australia and ended up winning . Turned out his goofy style of running was actually more efficient than normal jogging.

I know someone who is the world record holder for highest gym class She absolutely deserved it. She's not nims, but she gave it a shot

I know a lady with Parkinson's who is a cross fit champ. People like you would tell her she should give up

As long as you're safe and not a danger to others, definitely give things a shot.

[-] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 7 points 2 months ago

Should I google what "hawk tuah girl" is?

[-] some_random_nick@lemmy.world 29 points 2 months ago

Some stupid meme about a girl who told in a street interview that men like to get sloppy blowjobs

[-] Akasazh@feddit.nl 9 points 2 months ago

To clarify. The hawk tua is the sound one makes when reeling up saliva and then spitting.

The lady in question said her magic blow job secret was spitting all over the knob. Somehow that vibed with the internet.

[-] uebquauntbez@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Why? The ones winning the contests haven't been on a-social media that often. So she's most famous for her style. Chapeau!
