I mean, that was during prohibition... They propably got hammered and did various old school drugs.
Wikipedia says that the town has a large Mormon population. I could see that being a properly dry county back then. Just kissin' cousins eating the most bland food imaginable, snuggle pupping through their full-body underwear.
