Is Hasan white? I thought the name alone would preclude him from whiteness.
Whiteness is a construct and none of the racists can even agree on who is and isn't white
He's Turkish and Muslim, it's up to viewer interpretation
It really is kinda arbitrary. If his name wasn't "Hasan" it probably wouldn't even be a discussion.
Whiteness is made up but I have heard him refer to himself as white before.
yes he is white there are white muslims and most turks are white. saying hes not white is really weird behavior. if being muslim makes someone not white then there could be no white muslims and there definitely are because the have completely different experiences then nonwhite muslims.
Yeah, I know there are white Muslims. I've seen lots of blue-eyed blond-haired Muslim Bosnians. I'm just wondering if there's a limit to what Americans would consider white.
Like I know a Palestinian guy with fair hair and blue eyes, but I've never asked him if he considers himself white.
according to hasan who would know the most about his lived experience, he is white, he has white privilege, and is treated in his day to day life as a white man. only internet racist think hes not white and they are a loud minority and not the average american. white people are actually pretty bad at spotting nonwhite or "spicy white"people imo. like lots of people are white passing only to white people, have you ever seen old photos of white passing black people? its an interesting question for sure. edit spelling fixed
