Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

There is way to much sugar in coke
But be the devils advocate. The current anti sugar trend is worse.
Sugar is a natural and useful component to the body. There are times where having sugar available is not only important but can save lives (including some types of diabetes)
I have gone to locations where all provided drinks where zero sugar and bringing your own drinks not allowed. Thats is not an improvement.
Sorry, but why? The vast majority of the foods that we eat contain plenty of sugar.
Even with a pretty healthy diet you're still getting enough sugar. High sugar vegetable like carrots, bell peppers peppers, onions, sweet potatoes, and beets more than meet your needs, especially when paired with even the smallest amount of fruit.
Its not a big problem if you are not one of the people with a medical issue that need a reliable and exactly known amount of sugar.
Its a life endangering problem if you are.
Foods are rarely as standardized as drinks. Medical professionals relked on the availability and exactly known amount of sugar in regular code to prescribe it as part of a diet.
This was at some point even adressed on my local news when they changed the coke zero packaging to be more like regular coke. There is an increased change a customer (or waiter) could grab the wrong can and taste wise you wouldn’t know. This goed both directions.
People who can’t have sugar may be served sugar.
People who require sugar may be served sugar free.
I bet the scope of this problem is small but at least some medical professionals and health groups agree that this is not the way to go.
the thing is that the sugar in solid food is not as rapidly absorbed as from soda. so if you have hypoglycemia and are about to faint in ~90 seconds, eating a carrot is not gonna save you
Eating a carrot to ingest sugar??? Who ever heard of such a thing?
lemmy.blahaj.zone is not the best place for serious discussions because you can't downvote bad takes
for the rare case that somebody actually needs a shot of sugar due to hypoglycemia (which only diabetic people have), these people typically carry sugar around with them for this exact purpose.
I would certainly hope you get an exception to bring your own sugared something when showing proof of medical needs.
But i have never seen it explicitly stated that such exception is possible on events that ban you from taking food/drink. Which appears to be more and more common as culture gets bought out and enshitificated.
Mayve i am too autistic to assume such exception exists but i have been burned by assuming common sense will apply many times before.
Its also not just diabetics, some medications can cause thypoglycemia too. It also shouldn’t really matter what the reason is.
Its odd downvoted dont work on your end, my comment has 5 of them.
relatable
also i agree with the rest of your comment
OP here. The problem is, this is actually a shitpost. IDK what the heck is going on in my comment section rn
You just have to wean yourself off of sugary drinks. You really don't need them with the amount of sugar you get via your food.
Not if you have Hypoglycaemia.
i think that this is a bad take as well. you can't just reliably "wean yourself off" of coke if you actually do burn a lot of calories, because it's not as if people could just digest arbitrarily large amounts of solid food. coke should exist, it just shouldn't be the norm.
What happened to all the people who burned a lot of calories before coke was invented?
beer, i guess
