- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Idk paper bags seem fine to me. Rather that than plastic
They spill everywhere and you cant reseal them leaving it possible for bugs to get in. But i have to agree theyre better than a plastic container
You can buy a container and dump them into that. There are a lot of options around, metal and ceramic.
Open the flour over a trash can to catch that little bit of flour that always seems to be on top, try to keep the folding paper top together, but open one side like a milk carton.
Open resealable container of your choice, I have large plastic bins that hold 10lbs of flour quite nicely. Big round container with handles and a lid.
Dump flour into container, slow-ish so it doesn't poof into the air
Seal container, use dry paper towel, rag, or vacuum to clean the small amount that probably came off the paper top.
I usually give the open top a flick with my finger over the trash can to dislodge as much as possible before going to the counter.
I really can't think of a better way to package it, other ways are either taking up more space than needed, or uses plastic/metal. Plastic is a non-starter for me, and metal would drastically increase price. It's a cost-effective way of tansporting a cheap product. Just don't get it wet lol
Is this bug thing a problem you have? I never seen a bug in my flour all my life
If it's not irradiated it has eggs, if you don't use it quickly, parking it in the freezer for a couple weeks kills them.
I know ours isn't irradiated because I use it for sourdough but use it quickly because sourdough. But back when I didn't bake much I did have to freeze it, or bugs. Rice too.
I think I'm too European to understand this, I never heard about it.
Then buy a reusable container like everyone else who's ever bought more than one bag?
I usually leave them in the bags. But for sugar I put them into a different container. You can do the same with flour.

Fold, roll, and keep closed with some painters tape. If it’s needed daily, get a tub with a lid.
It’s a bag of flour, you don’t pour from it, you scoop from it.
I just fold it over twice and put a clothes peg on it.
It's more or less like a double seam, which is surprisingly effective at closing something off. Like, if you do that with a plastic bag, it's close to airtight...
My wife likes to stack stuff, so with it folded and rolled correctly (it’s more or less just keep folding till it’s flat) it allows you to maximize some space. The flour is a once every couple weeks unless I’m on a bread binge. Tape keeps its closed for when shuffling stuff around.
You're supposed to dump it into a sealable container
I put new flour into a sealable container once I get home. A little bit usually gets onto the counter, but a damp rag can handle it. I found that the trick is to slowly move flour into the new container using a scoop until the bag is about a quarter empty. I used to just dump the bag, but that makes it spill more and is a harder to clean up after.
You can also put the container on its side, put the opened bag into it (so that it would be upside down) and then erect the container

It's just the overly strong glue that bothers me. I want to be able to open the bag without ripping a hole in it. Like having a garment with thread stronger than the fabric, the fabric will tear.
Entirely paper packaging. I would argue this really is optimal packaging. I've got an air tight glass jar that I decant to.
