The average hexbearian is a furry trans girl gamer in their 30s from Copenhagen.
How dare you?!
I'm not from Copenhagen
Oh so you moved there? I kid, I kid.
the averager gamer is a middle-aged woman on her phone, and because she doesn't have a long history of console or pc gaming she has no natural defense to shitty monetization.
not that the post-horse armor population is showing any restraint.
My personal theory is that this fits a general trend of people shifting to games as their entertainment of choice because of financial considerations. Games have a high roi? in the sense that the amount of entertainment time you get out of a game is significantly higher than say going to eat out or to a movie (if you don't pirate, and if you do pirate games are still a low cost way to be entertained minus the initial cost of the electronic device you use).
I'm also fully in this camp. Culture is downstream of the economic base, right now our economic base favors cheap, digital, easily-available entertainments, which unfortunately are very often isolating and exploitative in their own ways.
Definitely. And because people are almost limited to gaming, gaming companies really put the squeeze on the consumer base and the workers through gambling like mechanics (the absolute worst imho), micro transactions, deleting the second hand market, monopolizing the sales platform (steam). They really will squeeze until the consumer base breaks. And as it stands Xbox and PlayStation next gen consoles are dead on arrival thanks to "AI"
I'm playing OutRun 2006: Coast To Coast as I type this
I'm using a Hip Gear "universal" steering wheel I got for $30 and the phone is taped to the underside of the controls flap.
