It's really bizarre in a tragic way how passive and apathetic Americans are regarding to the degradation of their country, especially to how acute the financial distress has become in the past decade.
Lack of class consciousness coupled with a collective learned helplessness. They're just waiting for the right person to come along and fix everything for them.

We can see it in American popular entertainment going back many decades. How many movies about collective action of ordinary people get popular, compared to superhero/supersoldier movies?

Ironic given that the US has been home to so many political movements that did change the society for the better, even if it stopped short of revolution.
