Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

IDK why you got so many downvotes, the article very clearly indicates that that is probably what happened:

“Jason was subjected to a campaign of sustained abuse for the more than three years since he accepted the role of professor at Cambridge University by those who would leave no stone unturned in their quest to undermine him.

“The campaign of misinformation was too much for Jason, who was a gentle man and who always wanted to see the best in everyone. We are in shock to have lost this amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and son.

Maybe not technically murder, but bullying somebody until they commit suicide should be considered murder.

I am not surprised. This story is being spread heavily by klan influencers on both sides of the Atlantic today, celebrating the torture of an autistic black man to death while slandering his life and his memory in the same breath. This is even happening here on the fediverse, with new fascist propaganda accounts spreading the story of “black DEI hire cheated to steal job from white people and killed himself when caught” which is not at all what happened. This man was publicly tortured to death because he wasn’t a “normal white man.”

I do not pull punches on my stance. Bullying people to the point where they end their own lives is murder. Those who participate in such behavior are murderers. The blood of their victims is on their hands. This is not an isolated incident, but a decades-old tactic used to destroy minorities — especially queer children and people of color — especially if they are “uppity” enough to achieve any level of social success.

The racists, fascists, and accomplices to murder are everywhere. Even here. And they do not enjoy having a light shined on themselves or their behavior.

I 100% agree. Lots of people here blowing the whistle too. They may be ignorant, but at a minimum they are being insensitive to the early death of a man.

Arday claimed that, after he was appointed at Cambridge, he received so much online abuse that his emails had to be screened before he read them and that twice a masked man had come to his work and threatened him, on one occasion with a knife. Investigation by The Guardian found that there was no evidence of this masked intruder on CCTV, that no other staff had reported seeing the figure, and that Arday, despite claiming that he hit a panic button, had not reported either incident to the university authorities at the time.[12] Also scrutinised was Arday's claim that a pig's head had been sent to his parents' South London home; he claimed that the Metropolitan Police had identified the butchers' shop from which the pig had been purchased. The Guardian found no supporting evidence of these claims, with the Metropolitan Police denying that an investigation had taken place and the butchers' shop in question relating that no police officers had ever visited.[12]

Were these claims of abuse even true?

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Apparently his family and publisher believed so, and I bet they've seen evidence of it too. Why else would they state it in connection to his death?

It is very weird that you would question it, when the messaging is so clear on it from several sources, and the man is lying dead at 41 years old.
You are behaving like a complete sociopath now. At the very least extremely insensitive to the early death of a man.

[–] Viceversa@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago (3 children)

He resigned following widely publicised allegations that he plagiarised and falsified parts of his research and misrepresented parts of his biography.

Is that true?

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

No. Liverpool John Moores University — from which he earned his PhD — had already investigated and found no evidence of wrongdoing.

This is a private, ordinary person being subjected to the “Obama’s Birth Certificate” strategy because of his skin color. It is fucking sick and all of western society should be deeply ashamed for allowing and enabling this.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why? So you can blame the victim? The family clearly stated he was the victim of misinformation and abuse for years!

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nothing wrong with trying to find the truth, and having sympathy for everyone involved. No one should be driven to die by suicide

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Sure, but why the fuck ask ME about it? Asking that question in that context is no better than a direct accusation.
Like: Oh BTW I just wanted to bring this up here that maybe he wasn't completely innocent...

If he has something to say, why doesn't he? This was fucking blatant blowing the whistle.
And you are supporting it, either out of ignorance or because you are in on it.

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I don't think they're asking you specifically, i think they're just posting a comment in a forum thread, at least that's how i read it.

I actually have no idea who this person is or what the situation is at all..

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

i think they’re just posting a comment in a forum thread

No they are asking in a specific context. It's a very weird place to post the question if it isn't meant as a counter to what I posted. At best it's rude and insensitive about a man clearly dying too early.

If there was an answer, it would probably have been stated more clearly in the article.
The fact that it's stated as "allegations" probably means it's not exactly a proven fact.

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

To me it reads like someone who is more aware of the story than me trying to separate what is misinformation and what actually happened.

That doesn't stop this from being a tragedy.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You could have simply said, "I don't know."

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

NO!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
That could not stand uncontested.

[–] Naich@piefed.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yes. The university was about to launch an independent investigation into the whole thing. There was lots of evidence that he did.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Funny because another user claims it was already investigated.

u/BlameThe Antifa:

Liverpool John Moores University — from which he earned his PhD — had already investigated and found no evidence of wrongdoing.

I believe the family, that he suffered sustained bullying and abuse for 3 years.

In May 2023, David Harris, an emeritus professor at Plymouth Marjon University, emailed Arday to enquire about similarities between sentences in Arday's 2018 Social Sciences article and an earlier BMJ Open article by Anjum Memon. Arday responded: "Instead of spending your time trying to dismantle racism and ableism, you have spent what I assume is hours combing through my work looking for mistakes [...] Anything further from you will be considered bullying and harassment."[69] Arday contacted police to report Harris for harassment, but Devon and Cornwall Police, in whose jurisdiction Harris lived, decided there was no case to pursue

From Wikipedia

That doesn't sound like harassment

Times Higher Education reporter Jack Grove subsequently investigated Arday's alleged plagiarism, assembling a 63-page report and in September 2025 contacting Arday for his response. Arday responded with a legal letter from the firm Carter-Ruck, after which the Times Higher Education chose not to publish the story so as to avoid expensive litigation

That's interesting

Media scrutiny also examined Arday's claim to have run 600 miles (970 km) in six days (a near world record), to have personally raised "£5.5m for over 80 charities", and to have run 30 marathons in 35 days, the last nine marathons with a hairline fracture of the fibula.[12][75] Grove noted that there was "almost no evidence [...] that [Arday] had completed any of these runs, [...] despite lesser runs gaining acres of publicity in local and national news".[70] When these claims were challenged in news media, Arday stated that the 600 miles had been completed over a period of 12 days, including rest days, and that the fundraising was done as "part of a syndicate of about 100 people".[4] After The Guardian asked him to identify some of these individuals, he responded that he had signed non-disclosure agreements preventing him from doing so.[12] Scrutiny was also given to his claim to have appeared on the documentary series Seven Up! as a seven-year-old, which was ascertained as being impossible given when the series was made.[13] Responding to this, Arday stated that he had been referring to a community initiative and not the television series, but gave no evidence that such a community initiative ever existed.[78] Arday had also made claims of working on projects abroad for the charity WaterAid, with the charity replying to enquiries that it did not send volunteers abroad.[79]

He did not have to make any of these claims, but he did

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Who the fuck claimed the bullying was in the form of an email?
You can't say he wasn't bullied just because at anecdotal single points he wasn't.
You logic is so bad and way off, I'm at a loss for words.

It sounds like your post has wording similar to KKK is that true, I also seem to detect similarities to Nazi rhetoric and American style blowing the whistle.
So I would like to politely ask why that is?
PS: If we meet in the hall and I make faces of you, it's not because I suffer from Tourettes.
