I discovered Lemmy last week. Lurked for a while, then finally created an account. The experience is much better than Reddit so I say good riddance.
Did the switch as well and feel the same. Welcome and Cheers!
Welcome ‘ere Bucky!

My oh my immaculate Wiki entry (spoilers if someone hasn’t seen, funnier after watching!)
Welcome!
Yay! Welcome! I'm pretty new too and I find the quality of conversation much higher over here.
Same! I'm new here as well. I've had better interactions over two days on here than I've had on reddit over half a year.
Le narwhal eats bacon at midnight! An updoot for you, good sir! You are a gentleman and a scholar. That’s a heckin cute pupperino, too precious do not deserve!

Welcome.
Welcome to the place where real people actually say real shit!
You must be into anime porn or Linux, because that's pretty much all there is here.
We also have snarky dweebs apparently.
Agreed.

Lies! There's also star trek
Skill issue
Oh, that's a creative and funny comment. You made so many people laugh at that super funny comment.
You suggest that there is only anime porn and Linux here, and yet, you are here. So either you loathe yourself, adore Linux and anime porn, or both. I don't think you're in a position to be snarky, kiddo.
I see similar comments every now and then. What exactly is missing here for you? There’s a community for almost anything except some niche topics
Local communities are lacking. We don't have the critical mass for that.
More diversity, but since we're commenting under a new user's comment, that may be correcting itself.
Niche topics was all I ever used Reddit for, so in my case, Lemmy just doesn’t replace Reddit at all. None of the subreddits I follow have an active equivalent Lemmy community. They go from a few posts a day and dozens of comments on Reddit to “last post: 3 years ago” on Lemmy.
Lemmy simply lacks a wide range smaller niche communities that exist on Reddit i.e. odd hobbies, smaller sports niches, etc.
I'd rather that I didn't have to keep using Reddit for those smaller communities, but I have replaced 80% of my Reddit usage, so I'm not complaining.
When this is brought up, the typical responses is the well-meaning suggestion to "start it yourself" or "be the first", except that hasn't been fruitful in my experience.
The communities that I still use Reddit for, are already present on Lemmy and have been open for years, but they lack the amount of user necessary to make them worthwhile.
There are plenty of communities and topics for them and what not, but engagement is the problem. There's no one here and most of the people here are here because even reddit didn't want them. This place is insufferable at times.
