"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

The people pushing these AI chatbots should be liable. Make them do farm work. Reconnect them with the earth.

Put them under the earth.

There have been cases where chatbots were held liable for what they said.

When an Air Canada chatbot told a passenger he could get a bereavement discount on returning from a funeral instead of having to arrange it up front, the courts found that Air Canada was responsible for that advice and had to honour it, even if it wasn't their policy.

But, good luck getting them to hold the word guessing machine companies responsible for when someone talks directly to it and blindly follows its advice. I'm sure that among the pages and pages of terms and conditions that people just ignore, there's something in there saying that it's just for entertainment and nothing it says should be taken seriously.

To a certain extent, people need to make responsible choices. I really hope that, in time, people realize that talking to an LLM chatbot is not ever a responsible choice.
