I was out hiking a couple years ago when I suddenly realised that I had become the guy with shades and a backwards cap. It's practical: I want to prevent a sunburn in my neck (the backwards cap) and also not have the sun in my eyes (shades). I spent some time coming to terms with it, but now that's how I'm regularly equipped in harsh sun in the mountains. It's simply the optimal solution to sun protection while hiking (I've tried wide-brimmed hats, but they get caught in the wind too easily in my experience).

My solution is much more simple. I just never go outside.

You could go for something like this, just without the face flap bit. They look kinda goofy but work pretty well

Pfft. Turtleneck. Or more realistically, one of them “buff” things. Basically turns whatever you’re wearing into a turtleneck.

Hats are hot and stuffy, I’ve found. I carry an umbrella as a parasol unless I’m biking or need both hands. Then it’s the Buff.

Also, a backwards hat to protect from the sun realistically offers dubious protection unless you are always walking directly away from the sun.

When i do it, the cap's to keep my hair in check and the sunglasses are superior to the brim, which i don't like how it also obstructs the top of my vision.

Nowadays though i just use a hair tie
