Unrelated, but I'm always insanely irritated when I see westerners using Vlad as diminutive from Vladimir. If you are going to use diminutives, use the correct ones!
There are a few options, but I think Vovochka is the one that mainly gets used for Putin.
I'm actually mostly annoyed, because Vlad is diminutive for Vladislav.
Maybe they are Polish lmao, here the diminutives for Vladislav (Władysław) and Vladimir (Włodzimierz) only differ by one letter: Władek and Włodek
How are W and ł pronounced in Polish?
Polish W is similar to V like in Russian names pronounced in English. Ł is basically same as English W
I think it is simpler than that, and they just can't be bothered about learning anything about Finno-Mongolian hordes from the East.
