This is sort of highlighting a fundamental friction in patriarchy, which is that men must be placed above women, but women must be considered as sexual objects to bargain with. So how does one square those two together if you're a man deeply invested in patriarchy? Either lower the position of sexuality itself (which is the "prude" route), or say gay shit like this.

It is amazing how this is such a repeatable pattern in patriarchal societies. Like even Roman and Greek texts would make such insinuations, like "This guy has to be effeminate and gay because he actually likes his wife and spends time with her". The seeming end state of patriarchy is that you have sex with women for offspring and hetero family norms, but all other forms of connection and intimacy beyond the physical act should be found among fellow men.

Sparta was actually the least oppressive polis for women. Which is an extremely low bar, admittedly.

for a small group of very rich women, through a quirk of their laws, which, because their politics were essentially paralyzed, they never managed to rectify (there were attempts).

i dont think the rest of the women had it that good. and the rest tracks, the men barely knowing their wives and living together in barracks all their lives. and the extreme violence.

Yes, but the rest of Greek cities managed to be even worse in that regard.

Basically just go the Mishima / ancient greek route of being gay and thinking of women as inherently inferior but having children anyway bcs it's necessary to avoid civilisational collapse. Im going to be real im kind of worried that this might increasingly happen in the future to become more than just the strange lifestyle of a couple of weirdos once the far right get over their reflexive hatred of gay men.
