I once got a tin of JellyBelly jelly beans and each bean was individually wrapped.

The marketing explanation I've heard is that it's a hygeine, anti-tampering and anti-counterfeitting measure all in one. Giving someone an individually wrapped product may reassure them that it is genuine and unadulterated

Kinda nonsense (not you) since none of that is really prevented by wrapping them in groups of 20. I think they just don't wanna change the machines.

Honestly individually wrapped cigarettes just sound annoying too, when I was a smoker this would've gotten on my nerves having to unwrap every cigarette individually.
