This gets me sometimes as well. But I also think it's the only way we can give back to our pets anything like what they give to us. The sheer unconditional love and companionship my dogs give to me, I pay back by being their forever friend. I will be a constant in their life, an unwavering pillar of comfort and familiarity that will never change for them. For the indescribable joy they bring me, I will be there for them even at the very end, and I will suffer the burden of their absence so they do not suffer mine.
