Putin represents the russian national bourgeoisie, which happily choked on western dong until it was fully obvious they were slated for elimination by the imperial bloc. At this point they are largely operating from a position of self-preservation and to this ends have allied themselves with China. A retransition to socialism is out of the question.
they were certainly never going to do a top-down one, in the absence of external threats maybe the people will start demanding it.
