I appreciate the response and how much it blew up. My discussion with them was informed a lot by the folks here on Hexbear at the time.
It went something like "if you care about trans people, then why won't you listen to and vote with them?"
To which I asked "which trans people?"
They later revealed themselves to be something of a rainbow imperialist, where if a country has a bad record of LGBTQ+ rights, it justifies whatever the US does to them. Because obviously we'll change their minds at the barrel of a gun, we just need to "follow up better".
We honestly don't talk much anymore for obvious reasons but I have this comment locked and loaded for later.
Because fuck the LGBTQ+ people in those countries targeted by the US Empire amirite??
If you still talk to them, the next time discussion comes to this subject you should ask them wether they think we should be allowed to lynch homophobes and wether we ought to bomb: Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Wyoming, Florida, Tennessee. (I think we should, but for other reasons.) Ask them about why they haven't killed their racist/homophobic uncle/grandfather/etc.
