Hey comrades :)<3!!!,

I wanted to share this hopeful update here too because I know this community cares deeply about queer people, refugees and those of us trying to survive difficult situations.

For anyone reading us for the first time, we are a small group of trans and queer sisters currently living together in Juba, South Sudan. We were forced to flee our home country Uganda after anti-LGBTQ violence, discrimination and threats made it impossible for us to remain safe. Since then, we have spent the past 5 good years under UNHCR protection moving through refugee camps and trying to survive day by day.

We spent years in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya and later in Gorom Refugee Camp here in South Sudan. Those years were some of the hardest of our lives. We faced violence, police brutality, discrimination and constant insecurity and sometimes it truly felt impossible to imagine a future beyond survival.

Today I finally have some hopeful news. Three of my sisters Charity, Pretty and Model have now reached the final stage of their asylum process and are preparing for their flight to Canada on the 18th of next month.

I still can’t quite believe I’m writing these words. After everything they have been through, they are finally this close to safety and a chance to begin a new life.

Right now we are trying to raise $489 total to cover the required medical vaccinations for all three of them before the flight. These vaccinations and the vaccine cards are mandatory parts of their travel documents.

Any extra support beyond that will help with simple travel needs like clean clothes, shoes, jackets and a small bag so they can start this new chapter with dignity.

Even $5 or $10 or a share or boost, helps bring them closer to this new beginning.

Thank you for taking a moment to read our story and for any solidarity you can offer Support link is in my profile.
