Makes sense if you consider that her "the West isn't a thing" might come from a place closer to "I don't see color" than from a principled "your notion of racial/cultural superiority is built on oppression and lies" position.

Unfortunately a lot of people saw stuff like, "she has a Tabby character (uwu) and knows some leftist jargon" and neglected to notice that such things were just foils used to reinforce her liberalism and shit on leftism. And she kind of reinforced such misunderstandings by adopting an ambiguous and "philosophic" (5D chess philosophy) air that people bowed down to as lofty and intellectual (I am very mysterious!). Aesthetics with no clearly expressed principles is truly the modern breeding ground for see-what-you-want-and-defend-it-to-the-death online fandom.
