I don't use a sound bar or external speakers for my TV and I've never adjusted the picture settings nobody has ever complained (hexbear.net)

a sound bar is definitely better but it needs a subwoofer to be truly worth it IMO.

I got one, but surprisingly the built in speakers were actually better, but you mmv. Basically if you aren't pissed off by your tv speaker sound, don't bother.
