But if the furnace isn't constructed at mount doom, then it wouldn't be able to withstand the magical flames required to destroy the ring.

For the same reason Eru Ilúvatar didn't simply strike Sauron or even Morgoth for that matter with lightning and solve everyone's problems from the outset, I guess?

Right.
My point was simply that Mount Doom not necessarily the only place that can provide what is required.
There might be others that are jus not yet discovered.

The whole point of the story is that it is, though. It's plainly stated, and the entire plot of all 3 books depends on it.
