"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

I'm not a techie, so maybe I'm missing something. Is there not a possible work flow like this?

  • A:
  • B: Sees slop. Clicks "ban A" button. Posts A to a public list of people banned for being stupid assholes.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Is this code wrong because it was written by AI, or is it an honest mistake from an inexperienced human contributor?" Verschelde said. "What do you do when you ask a PR author if they used AI because you're suspicious, and they all reply 'yes I used it to write the PR description because I'm bad with English'?"

Here is one example from the article that might shed some light on the issue with what you are asking about. You don't just "see slop" and shoot it down. You see bad code and you think "I want to help this new enthusiastic contributor join our little community and make this code just a little bit better."

And then you get slapped in the face with the new reality that it probably isn't worth your time to try to help the newbies learn anymore because the newbies are actually usually actually just robots.
