I've never had quinoa so I bought some today. If anyone has any tips I would most appreciate it.
I love it, especially citrusy types. It will get your guts going.
Like chemical warfare?
No, just active. It's a very mild laxative.
Oh dear.
Riiiiicccchhhhh in fibre, protein and other useful nutrients. Kinda tasteless by itself, but OK mixed into other things. Absorbs quite a lot of water so good for putting in stews that are too liquidy - same as cous cous. Agree that it does a good fill up and flush out of digestive system. Please note, raw seeds need to be rinsed well to remove bitter taste (saponins) before cooking unless packet says ready to cook on the label.
Got it. Thank you π
Kinda like couscous
Bang. I cous cous all the time so that's good to hear.
I had it in tabouli. It was ok but not worth the hype.
In tabbouleh? No no no.
That's like having bbq sauce on a meat pie. π
Hol' up wait pi day coming up I was gonna have some bbq sauce on the table for the DT partay partayy pies...
50/50 BBQ/Siracha makes great sauce.
Put it on the table, I am sure some of us like bbq sauce with pies (not me tho looool)
Better the table than the pies.
Please don't eat Racer's table
If it has bbq sauce spread on it, I won't. Easy fix.
Be wary of the ones going for bbq sauce. Can't be trusted.
I'm very trustworthy I'll have you know!
But... BBQ sauce...
Just don't order it at a fancy cafe for the first time and call it Key-no-ah
If I don't know how to say something on a menu, I point to it.
Wait wat? How's it pronounced??
Keen wah
I'd say it's more Kin Wha, but anything along those lines works!
Almost anyone English speaking who has come across it written down will go with 'qwin-o-a' as the pronunciation though, then when they learn the correct pronunciation they sometimes get a bit snooty about correcting other people to try to cover up the fact that they didn't know initially either. I think how they approach it says a lot about people . You could probably do a sliding scale from nice people who tell you nicely because they want to share knowledge up to the nasty self-absorbed snooty people who sneer down their noses because you dared to read a work phonetically. I'll call it the Raven-Quinoa personality scale. It could revolutionise psychology...
Ah yup, I pronounced it quinn-oh-a, not keen-oh-a at a fancy cafe and yup, snooty nosed waitress corrected me while sneering down her nose. I was scarred. I am scarred, I suppose. Never again will I mispronounce quinoa, but never shall I embarrass someone who mispronounces it. Quinoa is not just a fancy grain, it is a powerful teacher (mentor? totem?) in this complicated life.
In my head I think of it like Winona Ryder.
Itβs ok. Iβve cooked it a few times but not enthused enough to use it regularly. The little tails that curl out when it cooks are interesting, a nice look for salads. It appears in a lot of βhealthβ recipes because itβs got more protein than rice. I usually prefer rice, cous cous or mashed potato if Iβm looking for a side to soak up a sauce.
I'm hoping to up my protein cos I'm getting to the age that every little bit helps.
Rarely we buy quinoa, but we use it instead of rice sometimes. Usually paired with a curry or stir fry, but partner sometimes decides to make a Franken-meal and just throw stuff together; quinoa is good for adding texture to those meals, along with roasted sesame seeds.
Ooooo. This is good. Thanks.
It's like a nutty couscous. Try this recipe
I'm not a huge fan of quinoa, but when prepped correctly is quite nice.
Easy. Doable. Thanks.
https://www.glnc.org.au/recipes/lunch-dinner/cranberry-and-pomegranate-grain-salad-with-a-yoghurt-dressing/ a lovely recipe. Cousin made it for Xmas
I'm getting an "Error".
I looked it up anyway and it looks incredible. I'm gonna do this. Thank you.
Enjoy :)
I think I put the link in the wrong box whoops, will fix in a bit
