I don't know that many female philosophers, and I recognize that as being my shortcoming rather than an indication of some essential quality of women.

It's because these people don't study philosophy at all, they're just shallowly aware of the popular ones. If one studies or especially reads modern philosophy works there are way more women doin' philosophy stuff.
