This was given to me by a friend today, who had visited a recent Mardi Gras parade. His girlfriend found it while randomly scavenging around.
It originally had a red rubber band on it, but that ended up cut and lost, hence the regular rubber band to keep it closed. Thankfully it was never used though.
The part that fucks my head up is that it was found by my friends near a Mardi Gras parade, in D'Iberville Mississippi.
I wasn't there with them for the parade, but like hell, was someone planning something bad? π€π€·
Doubt it. I could throw a rock in any direction and probably hit a pickup truck with a couple of those in the center console. That's just how it is in the rural US.

Deer have over run some places in the east and need to be culled by humans, since we killed off so many wolves and bigger predators.
Also meat has gotten too expensive for a lot of people in those same rural areas.

Probably sitting in their truck swapping out broad heads for target tips, which would be how it got stuck in a pocket and dropped.
You don't just put this thing in your pocket, it'll shred your clothes.
They also get caught in in your clothing without notice fairly easily when you're juggling a couple boxes of tips.

I'll agree that it was unlikely. Someone probably had it in a jacket pocket or something they used when hunting last and it fell out. Sucks for them, that's probably not cheap.
Happened to kids I went to high school with. One guy I knew had to call out sick because he forgot he had a few boxes of ammo in the back of his truck from hunting over there weekend. Pulled in to school, saw the boxes, and realized he didn't have time to get home and back before lunch. So he just noped out rather than get in all the trouble.
Yes. This is clear evidence of a planned bow and arrow killing spree.

Alright, let's say someone did want to throw things at Mardi gras to hurt people
The cheapest mechanical broad heads I can find (which aren't this model) are about $16 for 10. Granted I didn't look too hard, it could be there are cheaper ones out there, but most that I can find cost about that much or more for maybe 3-6 heads, so that's probably pretty close to the bottom of the barrel.
For that same money, you could have easily gotten hundreds of razor blades, nails, broken bottles, all kinds of little throwable sharp and pointy objects, and caused a lot more chaos.
And you found one. That doesn't exactly scream that someone was throwing these around the parade route intending to cause harm, they probably would have thrown a few of them, and if they were you probably would have heard about it.
At the very least, you found it with the rubber band still on it they probably would have at least removed that before throwing it if that was their plan. Some cheaper broadhead are designed so that that band will break or be cut when it enters a deer allowing it to open up, just tossing one into a crowd wouldn't exactly guarantee that it would open.
More likely, I'm thinking someone's box of archery equipment got knocked over in their car/truck, a stray broadhead got away from them were cleaning up and fell out onto the ground.
Or maybe they threw it out for one reason or another and their trash can got knocked over
Or it worked its way loose from an arrow while they were carrying gear to or from their car and fell off.
Never attribute to malice what can be equally explained by incompetence.

My late father invented the folding crossbow. I know how deadly certain types of arrows are, and this ranks really high up there with weapons to kill and bleed out, which have no business being anywhere near a parade.
If that makes me 'paranoid' to you, well so be it, but perfect paranoia is perfect awareness, and such a deadly brand new no rust arrowhead had no business being anywhere near a parade.
Perfect awareness would be knowing what is and what is not a threat. Paranoia is seeing threats everywhere, even where there is no threat.
Yes, that is a very dangerous object your friend found. It can seriously harm someone. What evidence did you find that makes you think it was being used for something nefarious, other than the location? Normally someone would find that and think "wow, some people are so dumb and careless to lose a dangerous item like this and leave it laying around!" You seemingly jumped to the conclusion that it is intentionally being used to hurt people.
Without talking about how dangerous the arrowhead can be (we are aware), or where it was found in relation to a parade route (I'm guessing it isn't someplace where the public is banned from entering), what makes you think it was an intentional act and not just the carelessness of someone losing it?
