I would also like to point out the double standard. While this is a fine… I mean freaking fiiiiiine picture.

To the point the dumb shit was trying to make, there is a picture of Pierce Brosnan on a beach with a giant gut. Don’t see the dude posting that kind of shit.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

It's not this tweet, but I have seen people try shaming Brosnan over that.

There are unhealthy beauty standards set to both genders. They're just geared differently. Women are suppose to be prizes and men are suppose to be warriors. Tate is the result of decades of masculine marketing and the exact thing the movie Fight Club warned about.

Look at what they did to Luke Skywalker toys over time.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 14 points 1 day ago

Oh wow, look, it's DefinitelyNotHeMan™!

[–] BranBucket@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And the real tell is that the warrior ideal combined with super broad chest and shoulders are meant to denote strength, but the strongest men tend to be thick through the middle and lack the bodybuilder v-taper they give these toys. Not that bodybuilders aren't stronger than most people by far, but when you look at the people who hold records for lifting the most weight they're nothing like those toys. It's just as shallow and dumb as a lot of women's beauty standards.

For example, sumou wrestlers! Built like tanks, hit like tanks.

Its highly ironic that both genders are failing at what they are supposed to be though. Women are not prices and men are not warriors. We know this. No?

Its just marketing. :)

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Men are ALLOWED to be fat though. It's just the masculine swagger.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We are? I can attest that I most certainly am not allowed to be fat and get derogatory comments about it sporadically. I'm not even that heavy, I just got a growing beer gut and like 4kg overweight. Humans get shit for their looks, it isn't compartmentalized across genders.

[–] mrmanager@lemmy.today 6 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Fat would be a easy problem to solve. Try being ugly. :)

[–] billbasher@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

hair loss has entered the chat

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

Oh man I feel you. I look good and still have hair, I just get shit for looking tired and fat. But society's general aversion to baldness is very fucked up, and the girl power movement complaining about unfair ideals are all guilty of being just as bigoted against male issues like that one.

It's as if we should all collectively be nicer and more tolerant towards one another regardless of sex, culture, color of skin or whatever, not just be upset when whatever particular demographic you happen to belong to gets shit. There are very valid positions to hold for, as example in case, feminism, but there is also a shitload of people who just proclaim themselves to be feminist and spew some sort of moral indignation while doing the exact same shit toward others.

It's infuriating. Thanks for coming to my unsolicited rant. Try the crab salad.

[–] billbasher@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Agreed, friend.

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

The ugliest part of hair loss is the denial, accept and embrace it and you'll own it.

[–] billbasher@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

I am currently halfway and am growing a mullet so ya got me there ;) big beard too

[–] ol_capt_joe@piefed.ee 5 points 22 hours ago

I myself hope to try being old some day

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

To paraphrase family guy "there are no fat men, only fat women"

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I think it's even worse than the double standard. Saying that people shouldn't get married because some decades later your spouse might not be hot is infuriating to me. You're with someone for decades - if the only reason you're with them is because they were smoking hot at 25, you're immensely shallow and immature. People get old. Age happens.

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Seriously, who’s OOP? Leonardo DiCaprio?

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

If someone is with someone for decades because their partner was smoking hot at 25 either their partner is still smoking hot or there's something else going on, because most people don't stay the same level of smoking hot for decades. People who are with someone only for looks won't stick around for decades.
