Yeah but democracy isnt the part thats shit right now. Its the capitalist part. As we've seen, capitalism prefers fascism and other forms of governance that are more restrictive. Democracy has its weakness, but straight up asking the people "what you want?" is peak.

Liberal Democracy is not democracy. whatever civil religion myths you still believe about how government works are misleading you here.

the united states hasn't been a democracy since your choice of Citizens' United or Bush v Gore, and it certainly wasn't a democracy before the voting rights act. Whether it was a democracy during the ~30 years between those things is debatable.
