Was a recent AssCreed protagonist gay or something? I don't recall Ubi being noteworthy for having LGBT characters.

The first one started with a text about how it was made by a diverse team. Dei is baked into that game
I think that was more to ward off accusations of being anti-Muslim in a War on Terror world given the Crusades setting
Also probably why they played it safe and made sure to downplay religion in the game
