That level of conviction that you're right about something can be pretty destructive regardless of specific belief system. Theory of evolution was a great step forward but also somehow resulted in phrenology and branches of capitalism that liken it to "survival of the fittest" so. People like to concentrate power amongst themselves and people like them then justify it as them being smarter and more right about some kind of fundamental truth about the universe. Assholes gonna asshole regardless.
