He gets off on people seeing 'powerful' people grovelling to him and/or is countering the USasian libs 'the rest of the world is laughing at us' (not entirely untrue)assertions
There's an infinite amount of explanations ranging from the realm of macchiaveli to that of whomever alzheimers is named after

Probably morbid to say, but I feel like we're really fortunate that so many of these diseases are named after people with fairly unique names; can you imagine if it was called 'Jim's', or 'Jones', or even somewhat funny ones like 'McDonald's'
There's apparently a Jones-smith syndrome
Looking through the list the general tendency is that if the name is common (like Marie in Marie Antoniette Syndrome) then they either use the surname or the full name or they use the names of more than one individual
edit: I was wrong, there is a "Todd Syndrome" although Todd is a surname
