That makes complete sense. I usually make things up in the price of a pita shawarma, but it's the same concept. I think it falls under the broad category of "girl math"

edit: Broad category: girl math kelly

Broad category: girl math

Girl math is the study of functors from the Broad category to the category of tits buildings.

Yeah, but I think I've got proof
7.95 = 5
7.99 = 7.95
8 =/= 10
8 =/= 5
8 =/= 7
However
n = n.99 - 1
Therefore
7.99 = 8
So
8 = 7.99 = 7.95 = 5

It only works for 7 and 8 because those are uncomfortable numbers that we want to be another number, but going from 8 to 10 is too big because we go from one digit to two.

edit: additionally if 6 was 8 it also wouldn't work, because 6 is a number that feels wrong to mess with. Hence why, when people ballpark amounts, they often guesstimate "about 6 or 7". This also leads on to reinforce the current gen alpha 67eeen mindworm

I would guess this is because of subitizing. Around 7 is the maximum number for many people.

Please explain to me how this isn't misogyny.

[–] RION@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

It's actually misandrist because girl math is actual math. Originally it had to do with how a person earmarked money spent and not spending it and deciding to spend it on something else and considering that to cost zero. But that works out economically as that money was already spent and it is, in fact, how economists consider spending. So as it turns out, "girl math" is just conventional economics and "guy math" is wrong as guys are effectively emotionally "spending" the money twice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girl_math it's just a meme, and not even one of the problematic ones.

[–] Are_Euclidding_Me@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean, alright, but it still seems like misogyny to me. Just like "girl dinner", except worse because of the pervasive (and extremely incorrect) stereotype that women are bad at math.

I get that. I used to feel like that about a bunch of stuff, now I try to tap out

[–] AF_R@hexbear.net 5 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

I insist you return and not only engage, but aggressively do so. Having a struggle session about girl math with literally other communists is a definite and real step towards solving the problems men and women face in a society which not only encourages, but rewards psychopathy, sociopathy, and antisocial behaviors at its very fundamental structure.

Now, have at me! Ravish me!

That article goes on to explain how it is misogyny right there.

Yeah, I just grabbed the first thing that explained the meme. Who would have figured wikipedia was saying silly things shrug-outta-hecks
